12A won't start

Ok I am new to this site and to Mazda's. I recently got a 1983 RX7 with a 12a engine. It is carburated and in decent shape. So far I checked the timing, spark plugs for spark, plug wires, cap, rotor, carb for fuel, ohmed out the coils, air gap on the pickups, plug gaps, spray starting fluid in the carb while cranking, battery and wiring. The car will crank but will not start and run. I have plenty of experience on old muscle cars and years of experience on 4 stroke motors. Please help me out

Are you sure it's not carbon locked? Welcome to the wonderful world of funny spinning motors!

What did the previous owner say about the problem? What happened before it stopped running?

ran good and then sat awhile and it would'nt start. As far as being carbon locked you mean the carb? fuel is getting to the combustion chambers

Take the plugs out, disconnect the wires from the coils. Crank the engine. If you don't hear a bunch of PSSSH PSSSH PSSSH PSSSH, you're boned. If you do, put brand new plugs back in, reconnect everything, spray some ether in the carb, and fire that bitch up.

just pour a little bit of oil down through the intake, she'll fire right up.

I had to do that w/ my GSL-SE to get her running after sitting 2 years. Poured some MMO down the carb, turned it over by hand a few times and let it sit a bit. After about 20 minutes, I tried starting it and it started fine, it just flooded cuz my carb was jacked up. Now that carb is fixed, she runs like a champ!

Usually, when you try and try and try to start the car, the gas will take away the internal coating of oil on the housings, and that ***** your compression. Put a bit of oil down both barrels (with your plugs removed), crank it a couple times, let it sit a bit, put the plugs back in, and fire that biatch up.

yeah that will work. these rotary motors can be a pain in the *** some times. these engines burn a little oil and it just helps keep everything lubricated. i had a 79 rx7 and one of the apex seals was stuck and it did the trick. not too much oil though.

get in your rx7 put the ignition switch on the on position, put it on second gear and have someone push your rx7 from behind. while they are pushing you from behind let the clutch go while they still pushing. the engine is gonna spin and it will eventually crank right up after a good push. i've done it plenty of times. and it works great.

MMO TO THE RESCUE! BTW, since you are new, when you do MMO it and it starts, the smoke is normal. You will think that your radiator exploded onto your exhaust manifold, but in actuallity, it's just the MMO. Heh.

Also, I suggest starting it with the exhaust pointing out of the garage. Haha.

You might have to do this more than once to get it started. Once the omp gets oil into the chambers then it will be all good. I had to do this with my seven after it sat for so long but now it starts everytime first crank.
