Thanks Christ.

This tuner is pretty knowledgeable. He's doing a FC 20B swap for a friend of mine as well. He is a bit... overzealous about fabbing however. He's pretty proud of the crew he has working, and likes to show it off. I guess I would too.

Anyway, between your feedback, and speaking to Dave Randall by phone, I decided to give the tuner another call, and see if he couldn't just loosen up the engine mounts, and swing things around a bit.

When he answered the phone, he said they figured it out. Being fab guys, they decided to just drill some new holes to mount things where they wanted them.

Upside: No $400 engine mount bracket necessary. Engine and tranny perfectly centered with plenty of room for the fan and turbo setup. Downside: Still have to pay some kind of hourly rate on the work they did do to make it that way.

Oh well. Can't make an omelet without breakin' eggs huh?

Thread Cleanup?

PS Someone should clean this thread up a hair, or compile the useful info into a separate thread of some kind. 9 pages could be pared down a bit. If someone would add me on as a mod on this forum, I would volunteer to do it. You can un-fb-forum-mod me later if you want. Just let me know which method you prefer.

Not a bad idea Jim, I don't think rx7passion visits the 1st gen forum much any longer. I'd send him a PM, a while back he asked me if I'd like to take the torch but I didn't want to put in the time.

On the engine mounting.... They are in there crooked from the factory. It works to our advantage because it's more towards the drivers side making more room for a nice big equal length exhaust manifold on the passenger side

oh yeah, good to see you back and getting the car done!

Yeah, the engine isn't centered from the factory. When I first put the shortblock in, I was freaking out, but I used all the STOCK mounting holes, so everything was good to go.

Well, after much time and anger, my 1st gen turbo project is running perfectly, and fast as I'd like to think about right now!! I've learned alot about the second gen motor, and I think I've had just about every problem somebody could have with a swap, so when I get the time I'm going to compile a TON of info about it to help everyone else out with my experience. So far I G-tech it once, and with a stock turbo ( no wastegate porting) and 8psi, I'm laying down 220 rear wheel horsepower, and ran a quarter mile of 13.8 on a first and bad lauch attempt. My gearing is too short and it will burn out in 1st and 2nd, so its hard to lay it all down. I'm running 680cc in the secondary's and no super AFC, just a FCD and it works perfectly with my ported engine. I'm also going to post some pics soon of the entire motor and all that cool stuff, so more to come!!

Hey guys i think its costing you guys way too much, i just did a conversion for a mate, it costing him 3000US all up with all required parts with a Microtech LTX8 dropped right in. The engine he got was putting 300rwhp and was fully rebuilt with new housings. That price was including engien.

That sounds nice and cheap, so $1000 for micro tech and $1000 for the motor and $1000 for the clutch, turbo exhaust, mounts, intercooler, fuel pump, injectors, tunning and all...............is that how it went? I would like to know where he got all that stuff for that price, so I can build a second one for my friends.

Runs awsome with the aid of my new LM-1 WB meter!
For all of you that are doing this swap NEED to get your hands on a WB meter is all I can say. When ever I hook it up I learn more and more how the car likes to run. Only thing is... the car is going to have to go into hibernation very soon It's starting to snow up here in Minnesota and snow and turbo FB's don't get along very well. Oh well, that gives me a chance to update/change a few things on the car

Hello dudes, I need to get some info. about my install. I plan to install a Cosmo 13B-RE with stock harness and ECU and would like to know if this is possible. I plan to use a series 5 turbo on it and also a series 5 gearbox instead of the tranny it came with.

Question

i want to swap a JDM 13bTII FD engine into my FB.
i have everything i think i need(engine/turbochargers/engine wiring harness(cut)/ECU/5-speed manual transmission/power steering pump/ac compressor/etc.)
but one thing i wanna know before i dive into this project is if it would be too much of a problem? i know about cars in general and i know some about rotary engines.
is there anything i might need that you guys can think of?

any comments, suggestions and/or
opinions would be greatly aprieciated.thanks.

Yes,theres a lot to prepare for,so if you only know a little about rotaries and a "general" knowledge of cars, youll wanna read up.Theres tons of info here, lots of people have done it,myself included(twice)..........get a factory service manual for the year of your TII engine, its the Holy Grail for doing this swap.

Vipernicus,
Heh,heh...."Bring out your dead".... indeed!.......Ill get the cart!
