TB mod and port, pic time!

ok took apart my TB and did the TB Mod to it and i am now in the process of porting it out to a nice monster port. Took some quick pics after only using my first cutting bit, id go take pics now but i fnially got fed up with this single digit weather and came out of the garage, so new pics tomorrow.

here's the only pic of the stock "ports"

and here are three pics of in progress, after these pics i went at it with a round cutting bit and got everything nicely setup then went back at it with the drum cutting bit, and then used an 80 grit flapper sanding bit, ill take pics of all that progress sometime tomorrow.

this should help throw some nice new flames muaha.

what would this have to do with flames?

You should get a nicer throttle response though.

by removing extra weight and such from the TB you get a quicker snapping closed action producing a nicer flame.

it was also a reference to my former video of flames.

The TB mod has nothing to do with the closing of the throttles, only the opening rate of the secondaries. It won't make any difference to exhaust flames.

Nice work though.

how much actual HP can be gained from doing this mod? i think i saw like 3-4 hp.....is it really worth the awful idling gained from it?

ACTUALLY by removing the dashpot, whose job is to slow the closing of all throttle plates you allow them to "snap" close allowing the production of more flames.

the dashpot is a "damper" for the plates.

but believe what you want.

Nice work man

Are there any drawbacks to removing the dashpot? I've thought about it... don't see why you need the throttle to close slowly..

no one i know has had any problems result from lack of dashpot.

There are two dashpots on the TB. One slows the closing of the throttles, one slows the opening of the #2 secondary throttles.

Doing the "TB mod" involves removal of the #2 secondary throttles and linkages (plus the thermowax if you want to). Doing this doesn't make flames, as your post implied.

Removal of the other dashpot is an entirely seperate issue, and it doesn't make flames either. It's there to improve drivabilty and emissions when lifting off the throttle.

plus like i said, believe what you wanna believe honestly, and ill believe what i believe.

And you're lack of intelligence is obvious...

The front dashpot does nothing after you remove the throttle plates.
The rear dashpot help damp the throttle when you have abrupt lift off.
I bet your car doesn't idle well or you're bumping the idle above stock limits (750RPM).  The rear dashpot doe not affect performance of the throttle body, and it only helps driveability.  Sure, it might not affect the way the car drives for you, but to assume it doesn't do anything and, therefore, you can yank it and throw it away is pure ignorance.

*I* was the first one to publish my throttle body mod page on the Inet.  Before I did that, I made sure the modification was as trouble-prone as possible.  I keep the rear dashpot installed for a reason.

How old are you???

I only modify the things that I want to. I want a car that can idle when cold, so the thermowax stays. I did remove the rear dashpot, but not because I think it makes flames...

There's a difference between belief and knowledge, and I'll put my knowledge up against yours any day.

thats not the finished porting, thats only after using a drum metal cutting bit, since then i've used a ball cutting bit, an 80 grit flapper sanding bit, and 2 60 grit sanding drums. it's almost done tho, ill post final pics soon.

How can you report your idle when you are not even done the TB mod?

It doesn;t matter if you don't care. What matters is that you are posting bullshit on here. You got called on it.

If you really want to justify the age being unimportant, you should now own up, be responsible, and admit you were wrong.

No, it's just about making sure the info posted here is as accurate as possible. Some are able to tell the good stuff from the BS, but many aren't.
and i wont even justify your age question as that's rediculous.
Actually, your "I don't care what anybody else thinks" attitude matches your age perfectly, which is probably why Ted asked.

got to let people make their own mistakes though, especially with that attitude.

Also, people that make their own mistakes and take the time and effort to correct them is only a win-win situation

haha im done

when someone can prove to my face that i am wrong, i will admit so. but no one can prove im wrong nor can i prove im right, thats why this is such a useless argument.

NZConvertible: me not caring matches my age? i dont care because all i did was cmoe here to show some pics and receive some feedback as to possible things to be reshaped or whatever....i dont come to this board for normal conversation, when i have some interesting to share or would like a 2nd opinion on i post it

sooooo me not caring = me not looking to argue about some stupid **** that wont change how im going to do things....you're arguing about the use of a ******* dashpot....step back and think about that, i think you need to go outside and fly a kite or something just get away from the intraweb.

scathart: i havent had the dashpots on for a while all im basically doing was cleaning it up and getting rid of the coolant lines. and he said "i bet you dont have a good idle" or something i replied with "my idle is 750-800rpm"....that statement is true, the last time my car idled it idled perfectly at 750rpm without dashpots and with the fast idle not connected.

The laws of prysics argue against you. This is why you are wrong. And in case you didn't know, the burden is upon you to prove that you are correct. Otherwise:
I have perfected cold fusion. I can't show you I have, but its true until you prove me wrong.
When you get a little more experience, you'll realize that's just how life works, whether it be for a class, for a career, or even something as seemingly moot as an internet forum.

Flames are caused by rich exhaust being ignited by oxygen. Removing dashpots will not make you run more rich at the tailpipe.
