Building a NEW SERIES 5 Turbo Motor
I was shopping around the net and I was wondering how much it would cost to build a FRESH series 5 Turbo motor from new parts. Heres the price I got so far from www.racingbeat.com (USD)
Peripheral Port Housing $837.00 (x2)
Rebuild Kit (Seals, O Rings springs etc etc) $1,125.00
Super Light-weight Rotors $2,200.00
Aluminum Front Side Housing $1,200.00
Aluminum Int Side Housing $1,700.00
Aluminum Rear Side Housing $1,200.00
The total cost is then $9099 USD
I'm pretty sure I'm missing alot of stuff and I was hoping you engine gurus can more items with prices. Also, if anyone finds a lower price for new parts, plz add on to this list.
On the side note, I did try using 'search' but didn't find anything.

Whoops...
I just went to Mazdatrix.com and saw that.
MZTX-TB-2E00.....ENGINE TB-2E00........13B TURBO 89-92.......$4148.00
New Rotor Housings
New Rotors
New Stationary Gears
New Large Oil Pump and Chain
New Eccentric Shaft
New Side Housings
Note: ALL Engines have NEW Apex Seals, NEW Oil Control Rings, NEW Corner Seals, New Side Seals, ALL Springs are NEW, All Gaskets and "O"-Rings are NEW, with NEW Front and Rear Seals.
Anyone know of a better deal for a fresh new motor?

I think this will also let me get an idea on new motor parts so I know my mechanic isn't ripping me off on a rebuild.
He quoted me on $2500 cdn for a rebuild and I'm not sure whats included (Apex kit for sure, but what about rotor housings etc etc etc). I don't want to look like an idiot and get jacked in a scenrio like this:
Me:"Ok $2500 dollars on the rebuild and installation huh"
Mechanic:"Yup"
Me:"Well does that include rotor housings?"
Mechanic:"What?? Rotor housings?? ahh thats gonna cost you $2000 more!"
Me:"****!"
You know what I'm mean?
hmm i dont know why you want those expensive aluminum side housings???..what's wrong with the cast iron ones??..
im using brand new stock housings all five, new gaskets, new seals, new oil seals, new bearings, everything new except rotors, e-shaft, & gears
And it cost me about 3.5K. Then had it streetported for another 300 at Mazdatrix.
I think 9K just for parts it way too much!!!..

yeah i didn't notice the 'aluminum' part on racingbeat.com
I would prefer the iron cast 1's that MazdaTrix sells.
Again, I'm just wondering how much a fresh iron cast motor (Everything new) would run for.

I wouldn't bother rebuiding yours if a seal has blown. first he won't be able to give you a price untill after he pulls it apart. once he pulls it apart he can tell you what can be reused. and what has to be bought. if you broke a seal one housing and probably one rotor are garbage, so there's another $1500us or so on top of the rebuild price for those 2 parts.
unless you want to port, just get a new motor from mazda. it'll run about $2200cnd if he gives you his cost. I think this is a much better way to go if you're only looking for a stock engine. there are no surprises or price changes. if you're looking for porting it's still probably cheaper to buy the mazda motor, pull it apart, then buy new seals and gaskets to put it back together.
chances are about 1/2 the parts with the mazda engine will be brand new.

All Mazda remans have new rotor housings and a minimum of 2 new side housings (only one lapped used housing allowed per engine) as well as all new seals etc.
Also if they pull apart a ported engine they immediately throw the ported housings away
They don't rebuild an engine per se, they disassemble the engine, throw away the bad parts, measure everything else for spec, if spec is good the parts are put in inventory, and engines are assembled out of new parts + inventoried stuff. I'll have to search for the website detailing what they do, it's pretty interesting...

i built mine totally fresh. It will cost you a ton of money. If you have that much disposable cash, go for it. If not, the money could be better spent else where. Here is what you need in order to build a good motor:
new rotor housings
apex seals, side seals, corner seals and springs
all new gaskets and o-rings
new clutch, throw out bearing and pilot bearing
if your steels arent worn out, why buy new ones? If the rotors are out of spec you can have them machined to 3mm.

if youre not gonna do any port jobs i think a MAZDA REMAN is better for you. FYI turbo cars are prone to more internal engine wears than N/A.
So dont be surprise if your builder would request you to buy new housings!!..ohh and new gaskets, seals, and other stuff...Reman will run you 2K. And you need to send your core.

My motor was $2200CDN and $3000CDN installed.
Mine is a series 5 NA motor, but the price for the turbo short block is the same.
With the reman short block, you also get a new waterpump and flywheel.
