17" Wheels on 1987 GXL

Can I do it? A friend of mine had 17's on his turboII. I remember that the rear were wider than the front. How wide can I go on 17's...?

I personally would hate running tires thats not the same size on the FC> It will make the car plow like a big woman's t.ts...

A mate of mine put 17's on his S4. Can't remember the rim widths but the tyres were 225/45 and 245/40. It looked killer.

i have 235/45 17s running all wheels... the front is either to high or to wide. In normal driving theyre fine, but when it comes to pulling into a driveway / drivethru with a small gutter or speed bump, the fronts scrape on the edges of the gaurds. I had the lip on the gaurds rolled upwards to stop this, and now they work fine.

Wow, that's a tall tire for the front of the FC.

The best options are 17,8 front and rear or stagger, 17,8 front all the way up to a 9.5 in the rear.

Since you have a GXL, there's no reason what worked on his T2 would not work on yours.

If you really need help with fitments you should head down to the tire and wheel section. That's where you can find the wheel experts and get quick easy info.

I run 18,8 +38 and 18,9 +35, as well as 17,8 +31 and 18,8.5 +45, then I have a set of 17,8 +38 and 18,9.5 +38. They are ADR Kasai, SSR Hasemi line, Enkei RP01. The sizes are either

225/40 or 45/17 for the front, otherwise you oversize and will increase chances of rubbing.

255 to 265 in the rear.

I run 255's on the 8.5's and 265's on the 9.5's. For the 18,8 I run a 225/35/18.

So this should help you know that there are several options for the FC.

Good luck, Rishie

I have the Kosei Racing Seneka's in 17x7 on my GXL. It acually handles quite a bit better and I can still get it to rotate like I need it to on the track. 215/45ZR-17 Bridgestone Potenza RE730. The drawback is it did considerably slow down my acceleration onto the straights. So I really can't find any horrible handling affects of the wider/larger tires.

OK then, I will be installing 17" Nakayama Schumacher wheels. It is gonna look killer!!!!!. I am not worried about it affecting performance on straightaways since I installed a Turbo on my 6-port engine. A little more boost will solve the problem.
