Storage facility doesn't allow car storage?

I was trying to rent a storage space to store a wrecked Camaro, but they said storing a vehicle is not allowed. Does anyone know any storage facilities that allow vehicles to be stored in their units? I'm in the Fremont area, but San Jose/ Mountainview/ Palo Alto area is also acceptable for me...

Or better yet, anyone has a garage/ half a garage that can be rented out to me?

most will only allow you to store a car if all volatile, toxic and flammable materials are removed from the car prior to storage. it is an insurance concern which is why most don't allow it.

I can drain the gas before moving the car in, and I asked the lady if it's ok even if there's no fuel, but she said no...

Do what I did go to public storage. I picked out a 10x15 and we went to go look at it. Then I bought the lock and had her fill out all the paperwork. Then she asked what I was storing and I told her my 7. I told her nothing else. I filled out my half of the paper work and came the next day with the 7 on the back of a flatbed truck. Now her boss did not like this and we had a little chat. She told me non runing cars are not allowed. So I asked her if running cars were and she said yeah. So i told her what was the differance the running cars in storage has more gas than mine. Anyway by being super gay and nice and telling her my tragic story she agreed to one month. At the dollar first month rate special and the tow over there i spent about 50 bucks for one month of storage.........i kinda just went off here.

Be crafty, be in person, and BE NICE.

I wish I hadn't told her I'm putting a car in there, since it sounded like they didn't want cars in the units, running or not. But if I don't have other options, I guess I'll still go back there, rent a 10x20 as I had planned, and tow the car in there after their office hours.

what they don't know won't hurt them, moving it in after hours is the best way to do it but gotta be careful when working on the car so they don't find out.

I went through this same hassle about a year ago, here's what I figured out: It completely depends on the place and moreso the manager or person who lives onsite (if they have this). Public Storage doesn't allow vehicle at all it seems (I called 2-3 of them in the area, none accepted vehicles in any condition). So, I started calling around and found this was a pretty common theme among even the smaller storage places. Eventually I found a couple places that allowed vehicles (running or not) so I went with Extra Space Storage. The manager was a real cool guy. He did mention that you're not supposed to work on vehicles in the storage unit, but the guy next to me was restoring his '70 Plymouth somethingorother inside his unit, so it seemed they didn't really even care about that. He also said you're not allowed more than 8 tires in the unit for some reason, but I had around 15 tires/wheels in there at one point and they never said anything. It's not like they do inspections on what you have in storage since you keep the key.

I had a 10x30' and 10x25' there for about 8 months with absolutely no problems, had my RX-3, a barely running R-100 and non-running RX-2 in them and at the time I had no garage so I actually did some work on them there. Nothing major like a complete restoration, but I did drop the gas tank and manage to get the RX2 running.. all in that storage unit.

eventually I moved and now have a garage. Those units aren't cheap, so the rent was adding $350+ per month so I just moved to a bigger place with a garage and backyard where I can store 4-5 more cars. heh

any Q's just PM.

Mike
