Steve Kan tuning in San Jose - May2007
sure does, its a rebuild with only about 9k miles, which really pisses me off. Mazda recycling if you must know. Steve said the bearing was gone on the front rotor or something to that extent. It was a rebuild regardless and I ain't forking no more money to this damn thing.
Damn really sucks to hear. If your interested I have a 95 motor in my rx2 I will offer up to you I hate to see you leave the rx7 for unfortunate events, its that days 5 speed conversion lol the only catch is the motor was running before it was pulled and had good compresion but hasnt been started in about 2 years. How many lbs where you trying to tune for? And what turbo? Ill be at work tomorrow night after 8 you should come in and have some drinks.
Thanks for setting this up Phong, it was good to meet you today. Steve did a great job as usual. 386 for the high number on my car, then Steve backed it down for a safe tune to 371. Once I get my EVC replaced so I can actually control the boost instead of running on the 10lb wastegate spring, should be an easy 400.
Final Schedule for Monday - May 28th
Touge Monster - 10am
projectx42 - Will follow Touge Monster
Both standby guys, show up around 2pm
puffxy - standby
sirhan - standby
insomniac - final tune of the day

Good deal...I might show early just to check things out. I swear, Im hoping if I even get on the dyno that Ill be there an hour or so. Im already Street Tuned...just want to see #'s and see if there is any juice left to squeeze out of it.
Just wanted to say thanks to Steve for doing such an awsome job with my car (for the 2nd time, rofl) and Phong for setting the whole thing up for all of us. Lunch was also a lot of fun and that dim sum was f'in good.
I would like to thank Steve for tuning my car and making it run beautifully! I would also like to thank Phong-a-ding-dong for setting it up again.
I was able to squeeze out 329whp on my twins! =)
What was everyone else's turnout?

My damn clutch slipped, didn't get a tune in.. but that's my fault for listening to previous owners
mucho thanks to Steven and Phong, now to prepare for Steve's next visit with a new clutch, new fans, and perhaps a variable AI kit

edit: and a new headlight

Thanks Steve! Car runs a lot smoother and it just keeps on pulling to redline now.. I hit 300rwhp and 270tq with fmic, dp, cat back, and intake, the rest stock. . Thanks again Steve and thanks for setting this up Phong
Thanks to Phong and TEC3 performance for making this possible. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the new tune. There might be a chance that I might come back in a couple of months. so for those who were on the standby list and would like to get tune, there is still another chance.
If any of you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I'll try my best to answer your questions.
Darin, sorry about your car, spun bearing is always not a good thing. Good thing we caught it early enough so I think the damage is very minimum. it probably won't cost that much to repair the problem.

Great to meet all you guys and breath carbon monoxide together!
Well I don't know exactly what my numbers are since I got a street tune from Steve. Perseverance paid off - after hanging out for 3 hours or so on Saturday, then 7 hours on Monday, we were able to squeeze my tune in while they put Phong's car on the dyno for the last tune of the day. How late were you guys there? I know Steve had a flight to catch a few hours later.
It was very hot (and smokey!) in the shop all weekend. Particularly Sirshan's car with the twin muffler TII exhaust. Unfortunately Chuck at Tech3 did not have two exhaust venting ducts! With the air temperatures, many guys were compensating with bags of ice on their IC's. With my SMIC (poor air flow without ram air intake at highway speeds), who knows what my numbers would have been like. But it seems like similar setup cars were getting 305 rwhp and Steve said on the road it felt like 300+ at 13 psi. Works for me as a daily driver and so much smoother than before. Thanks Steve!
It was fun doing the street tune, but I am glad I didn't get a ticket. It was the end of memorial day weekend and there was all kinds of traffic on 101 and 85. We managed to do half dozen 3rd gear pulls and even a couple 4th gear pulls. Going 120, in traffic, hitting bumps, watching EGT, watching boost, looking for cops, kind of nerve racking. BUT FUN!

FYI: Stock ports, RA super seals, stock fuel system and injectors (with fuel pump wiring upgrade), Greddy SMIC & hard pipes, Efini twins and Y-pipe, down pipe, Bonez free flow cat, RB dual tip exhaust, twin power amp, stock airbox with K&N filter and cold air cutout. Smog pump intact, A/C intact, power steering intact, cruise control intact: all the comforts and might even pass CA smog!

You like that smog huh...my eyes were burning after a while, I dont know how Steve can handle all that for 3 days straight. Im wondering if mine is just 10 times worse than everyones or what...but I needed fresh air every 5 minutes.

I'm pretty sure Steve has grown immunity after all the cars he's tuned. By the time your car was finishing up sirshan, pretty much everyone still there stepped outside for a breather, I know my eyes were burning.

Man....I'm not cut out for this car... F%$#@ bad luck, I'm outta the game. Look out for my post to sell the car as a whole first, new owner will need a rebuild. If no offers, then will part out.
