Angry State referee

I got pulled over yesterday by a chp officer and was reffered to the state referee. The ******* pulled me over because of my exhaust and no front plate, then he asked me to pop open my hood. In the end he gave me 5 citations and said that none were correctable infractions. He took pictures of my engine bay, he even thought i had nos so he took pictures of what he thought was nos, and he took my picture. He told me to go straight home and that he didnt want to see me driving again or else he would do the same.

My main question is there anyway out of seeing the state referee or do i have to put my car back to stock?

what do you have in your car that is possibly illegal? my auntie got pulled over in her turbo civic but the cop thought ALL TURBOS WERE ILLEGAL but it was smog legal. I mean how could it not be since she been smoging that car here since she came from VA 4 years back. also I think nos ain't illegal to have just illegal to use on the streets.

Damn i have to pay $500? Im sure its going to be more since i also got citied for not having my drivers license on me and no front plate. Anyway i guess its better then putting it all back it stock, the car doesn't pass smog in the stock form either because of the port job.

You shoulda refused to the popping of the hood. He'll try the "Reasonable suspicion" bullshit, but I don't let anyone go under my hood unless they have a paper saying so.

Having no front plate is only $30. $50 if you wait too long.

Any aftermarket intake/exhaust/turbo parts must be CARB certified to be legal. There should be a CARB number on the part, and carrying around paperwork may help too. But you can often get away with intakes and catalytic converters that aren't CARB legal. For the intake they often let it slide because intakes can't leak pollutants. For the cat they let it go b/c either they can't tell the difference or don't mind as long as you pass the sniffer. And b/c there is no CARB legal aftermarket cat. For other stuff, if it's not CARB certified it may leak exhaust which won't show up on the sniffer. So yes it's illegal and yes it matters. Noise is an issue too. Plus you can get a mean cop, who may be more strict or try to cite you for things that are technically legal. Like noise that's loud but still below 90 dB.

I have a gt40r turbo kit, upgraded fuel system, no cats, v mount intercooler, ignition, and ems.

I wanted to refuse but i thought that i had to open it no matter what.

I got a ticket for no front plate, modified exhaust/loud, modified emissions system, nott having my drivers license on me, and no having my proof of insurence. He said that it doesnt matter if i do have them, but because i wasnt carrying them, he was going to cite me and that it was non correctable.

I paid for a no front plate ticket about 2 months ago and it was about $140.

Yeah i thought they could impound your car if you refuse.

This is only my 3rd time in the 7 years i have owned my car, that i have got pulled over in my car, and its the first time they tell my to pop my hood. The other times was for my front plate but never for my exhaust not even when i drove next to a cop have they tryed to pull me over. Yesterday i was stuck in traffic and the chp officer just got on the freeway and went straight for me.

$500? year right!
If you put everything back to stock, the judge will *probably* wave the fines, even though it's non correctable.
But if you just pay the fines, it'll probably be $1500-$2k ish.

Your aunt drives a Turbo Civic?

OP: sounds like you get it up the ***, try this: http://www.ticketassassin.com/shareware.html

And Steve made a good point, if the cop really wanted to be an ***, he could've just impounded your car just like that. And where the hell is Fumanchu?

I got pulled over by the CHP back in November for modified exhaust, he looked under the hood and everything and let me go.
He asked what I had modified under the hood and I told him just intercooler and intake and he asked to look under the hood and I figured I'm screwed at this point.
He had his head buried in my engine bay he even looked right at my NX nitrous solenoid.
I have the Greddy intake, V-mount intercooler set-up no smog equipment etc.... I think he didn't know what he was looking at maybe thought I would pop the hood and there would be a 4 cyl motor.

I was sitting in a race seat with 4 point harness, steering wheel with no airbag, no front plate (which he couldn't have missed looking right at the front of my car). He told me he's not going to write me up but do something to make my exhaust more quiet.

I thought for sure I was getting the Ref Ticket, I have no tickets on my DMV record and was very polite maybe thats why I got off with a warning.

you know, in my 45 experiences, some cops are nice, most are ********. sometimes you have to play their game, sometimes a finger works too.
straight up told a cop "ok, so what? do you have a db meter on you? then goodbye" he got in his car all pissed off and left.

peace
