Speeding Ticket

I have a question and it's not getting out of it per say.

I got a speeding ticket a few months ago, I was willing to pay for it.

Court day comes and I missed it, and slipped my mind to call. (my fault)
anyways the past few days I was going to pay the original bail amount but was confused about some of the options of doing so. I was waiting to call them to ask about the options I had, but due to work and the courts opening times I always forgot or it was too late.

Anyways long story short today they changed my status to failure to show and under section 1214.1 P.C. I need to pay $300 more for the damn thing.

Anyone know if there is some begging and pleading that can be done to atleast pull some of it away? I wasn't exactly peeling out on the freeway going 3-figure speeds, but I'm not going to go into the ticket.

Does anyone have any dealings with this? I really can't bone out the extra $300.

Dude...you are lucky its not a bench warrant...or maybe it is.

When you sign the ticket it is a promise to show up...since you didnt...its pretty bad. I dont think there is a way out of it. You may be able to do a payment plan but I dont see the judge letting you off because you simple forgot or got too busy. No excuse.

I dont think you can even get a lawyer as it is not even trial...plus the cost of a lawyer would be more than the 300.

I think you are screwed and have to show up in person to the court, pay what you can and set up a payment plan. I really doubt they are going to let this slide just because you forgot. It would have to be death, sickness, doctor's note type of crap.

You could probably spend a few hours in jail in lieu of paying the fine. Speak to the judge. PM WackyRacer, he is very knowledgeable with the court and jail system.

Go to court and tell your story to the judge. Dress nice to show respect to the Judges court (but not so well you look like you just won the lottery). Apologize that you let your confusion over how the system works cause things to get to where they are now. Then let him know you're financially tight (starving college student, just got out of college buried in student loans, dealing with recent high medical bills, whatever) and ask to please reduce the fine so you can affort to buy food.

Seriously. Unless you're unlucky enough to get a hard nosed judge, you'll probably end up walking out of there obligated to no more than the original fine. Maybe less.

If you're really hard up, you can ask for community service in lieu of all or part of a monetary fine. Usually consists of putting on an orange vest and picking up trash with a crowd of other kids at some public area. Payment plan, as already suggested, is always an option as well.

Yea I really don't care at this point if I need to pay the $300 extra as it was my fault.

Setting up a court day and talking to a real person is the real problem lol. Waiting behind 70+ people on the phone is what I hate. Thanks for the tip, pretty much what I had expected.

Have any of you guys tried that GPS program that alerts you to speed traps. looks interesting. I was thinking of trying out phantom alert. anyone with personal experience in here?

I did something similar in Colorado, and the way it worked there was I went down to the courthouse and changed my court date. That made my bench warrant and any fines go away. I just had to be very careful not to get pulled over on my way down there, never been so paranoid in my life!

Maybe you will get lucky and CA will work like CO did, probably not though with the current budget situation.
