We got the evac call around 3am Sunday. We'd loaded the cars earlier in the day (sadly, the SA would have to stay; not assembled, and no driver).

Went out the front door to see this:

Fire Dept stopped the fire at the retaining wall behind the first houses.... too damn close!

Yup. That's about what it looked like from here as well about then. Even more crazy, Sleepy Hollow looked like a Volcano from my vantage point.

Since I have a permit to be in the canyon being a resident, I'm going to go take a drive and check things out up close this morning.

Sure wish I had one; that's my normal route home. Having to shove thru the 91e/71n instead is gonna take friggin hours.

Carbon Canyon is still closed to through traffic, permit or no permit.

Last I heard, it's only 20% contained. Brea (just south of me) is still at risk. but less so what with the quieting of the winds.

I'm at the extreme northern end of Carbon Canyon. Today I went as far south into the Canyon as the situation would let me. All the hills are BLACK, with small pockets of smoke still apparent. Looks like something out of a movie, only the sobering part is it's real. Firemen in full outfit are still wondering around dealing with the odd pockets of smoke.

I've seen Fire Trucks from towns as far away as Redding, CA. I've hear of sightings of trucks from as far north as Seattle and as far east as Las Vegas.

The wife was at my daughters since Friday, so no worries there. For myself, when evacuated, I hung out at my son's apartment until they announced Permits were available for local residents to get back to their homes. The only real anguish was voiced by my Cat who did NOT like the idea of being forced into a car going to strange places. With counseling and good drugs, I'm sure she'll recover.

The below pictures are panning from right to left.

I appreciate the concern. Thanks.

Things continue to improve; containment's around 40% and the weather is cooperating. The last mandatory evacs on the SB side have been lifted, though CCyn is still closed to through traffic. I think we're all out of the woods for now.

Cats; yeah, ours are still kinda freaked out too - - got them back from the shelter yesterday. Albertsons roasted chicken seemed to work better than drugs or therapy; they pigged out just short of ripping noises, then collapsed for the night.

Everything outside stinks like a wet ashtray (we don't dare open the windows), but life is getting back to normal; hopefully for you, too, John.
