simple loud exhaus fix it ticket now same as ref ticket

As most of you guys know I used to dd my fc everywhere and everyday. I Just got a loud exhaust ticket last month on the last day my registration was about to expire. I thought oh well w/e just a fix it ticket, simple exhaust ticket, ez fix. I swapped my quiet muffler back on.Found out that CHP doesnt sign off fix it tickets anymore, and that you must take it to reff. I towed it there today, and they checked everything from the engine bay. My car is quiet, but its still modified in their mind. They couldnt sign off my ticket, they just wrote a letter to court saying that
my car is highly modified and is registered non op and off road only vehicle. Also saying that its up to the court to decide what to do. IDK, I dont even drive my car on the streets anymore, i just tow it to the track and thats the only time I ever get to drive my car. All I wanted was he exhaust ticket signed off, and just be done with so I wont have stuff to hassle me.

so yeah guys, watch out. A simple exhaust ticket is not so simple anymore, its just as bad/same as a modifed emissions sate reff ticket, they will check everything. The only wayto sign off a exhaust ticket, is to put ur car back to bone stock.

on a side note I got a letter from court saying the bail is $25, but I am assuming its $25 if I have my violation corrected. The thing is, its almost impossible to correct the violation since reff will check everything.

Im not sure what courts will decide to do with my issue.. Im hoping they will just dismiss my ticket because I dont even drive my car on the street anymore and that its non op, track car.

IDK, its hassle to drive a rx7 on the road these days.

will keep u guys updated

you shoulda gone to your local pd and had them do it. They just send their trainee out and listen to your exhaust. Had this done just a little while ago.

i was told that the chp and local police station do not sign off fix it tickets anymore. Thats how I had my exhaust tickets signed off last year, but this year only ref stations can sign it off.. i guess you got lucky !!!!!!!!!!

when you appear for court, just tell the judge you could not afford to fix your car so you sold it, and show a bill of sale. should be dismissed, worked for plenty of my friends. you can even give it as a gift to a family member you trust with a different last name/address, then transfer it back a couple of months later if you're worried about the judge asking for more proof.

why ******* lie?

DK if you don't drive the car no more and its used for track only stop wasting time and register the car as a off road vehicle for track use only...You don't have to pay for smog and all that good jazz..They you give you a different registration that is related for the use and purpose of your car...Take that to court and you will be fine...It will show you took action in registering the car for its proper use...

I just reg'd my 7 for track use only and only had to pay no-op fee's but the reg allows me to use it for track purpose only...and i never have to smog it again..

Story told me is the San Diego PD received a grant of something like $600,000 the specific purpose being crack down on street racers. Even if that's a bit of exageration, I think I'll not drive down to San Diego until I hear someone say they've used up that grant money.

That said, I wonder if this sign off by a ref vs. sign off by a cop or highway patrol is a San Diego thing or a California wide thing. If a San Diego thing, perhaps you can get it non-ref'd signed off up here?

hey
Teddy thats a great idea man. I just registered my car non op, should I go down o dmv and tell them its for rack purpose only? Then with that I can show it to the judge or clerk, hopefully they will dismiss

Pay the $25 bail and all is done, dont even have to leave your house =)

if i knew you where givin that for bail, you didnt even need to go to the ref.

If you go to court, and the court drops it, you still pay $10 court fee. =(
but also if you challenge court, judge may say though that it was on the street in your possession during the time of the ticket regardless, same goes for people who get ref tickets and think they can get it dropped by saying they sold the car etc, it doesnt work.

Wow thats pretty crazy. Like Hozzman, I'm also curious if this is a CA state wide thing or specific to San Diego. I'm thinking about putting headers on my N/A, which would likely get me a loud exhaust ticket in the future so I want to know as much as possible about these laws.

Well I got a loud exhaust ticket about 2 months ago. The cop said, "Even though I am putting this as correctable, sometimes the ticket will still say you have to go to a state referee. So just make sure you read your ticket".

When I got the ticket in the mail it didn't say I had to go to a ref. So I got it signed off, and mailed it in with 25$.

So if the ticket said it was a correctable violation, and didn't state anything about having to get it signed off by a ref, I would just try as many cops as you can until one of them signs it off.
