Old-school V8's eat gas, newer V8's (Gen III + Chevy's) get pretty damn good gas mileage. Hell, there's a guy on the Corvette forum that gets like 34mpg (hwy) and he has over 550hp.

Bad rep comes from the FD's. I saw a 3rd gen thread where everyone said their motor lasted to about 125k, so 130k actually sounds about right. NA FC's go to about 175k (according to 2nd gen FAQ and my mechanic), turbo FC's go to 150k, and I dunno about FB's. But any well treated NA rotary will easily go to 300k+. All you have to do is mind the cooling system, mind the turbo system and mind all the oil stuff intact (especially the oil cooler lines and oil drain plug). 125k-175k is typically from an overheat or boost problem. Since I bet FB's are much less likely to overheat or dump all their oil even when old, 300k wouldn't surprise me.

V8's still suck at gas mileage. The corvette OTOH is geared so tall and has such lousy low end torque (yep, all its power is up high!) that its 400HP is about as slow as ~200HP at the low end (0-30), or as slow as ~300HP on average for the 0-60. And yeah I've checked the actual 0-30/0-60 times. That's how it gets up to 28 mpg. Corvettes are for old men who want to boast without hurting themselves.

Yeah, and for anyone else that wants to completely destroy a 14 year old car at the track.

So you're an expert at the Vette's acceleration curve cause you've seen the 0-30 and 0-60 times? Please do us all a favor and quit commenting on things you know nothing about. Its annoying to those who have actually driven a late model Vette and know what it's capable of in 1st gear alone.

When I've been given the opportunity to drive my friend's '06 Corvette, I never noticed a lack of low end power when I drove it around the big track at Willow Springs, the Streets of Willow, and messing around near my house. Matter of fact, it was impressive how smooth and seemingly "flat" the torque curve was. Lots of power from very low revs to redline. And this was in a stock Vette with the LS2. In another car with the LS2, the GTO, the torque is also flat and the car pulls with a vengence from down low to redline. Neither car can be described as "all its power is up high". I'd suggest you try to find the opportunity to drive a new model Vette before making unfounded claims...*gasp* you might actually discover the reason many choose the LS* powerplants for their 7s!

Better choice for your future arguments...you want peaky? Try a new model Mustang GT 3V with headers, exhaust, intake, and a tune...that is a peaky setup, and that's before cams!

Alright i'm starting to realize how annoying and unreliable these cars are. In the last two weeks i've had to replace the radiator, water pump, and now the master clutch cylinder. **** so frustrating

it seems to me for the most part your engine will last as long as you want it to. i saw a video clip of a bunch of dumbshits standing around thier fc in the driveway listening to how cool it sounded to redline it. id rather take a nap. anyways it went on for a while then thier motor popped. they were so retarded that they were actually surprised. common sense is rare these days. live fast die young thats how it goes kids. and about the gas mileage posts this is an rx7 site not a toyota corolla site. has there ever been an rx7 that gets good gas mileage? i hope you guys didnt by a 7 thinking you were gonna get good mileage. anyways this thread sucks.

The Focus is doing. No issues so far. It's a '00 with only 60k on it though, so who knows. *knock on wood*. As soon as it starts to bite the dust. New Audi/Cadi/Mazda time.
