Don't think anyone cares about my grocery list. Probably even less about all

the heck is making a commitment to go on this run. Let's give it a shot.

Remember, ya don't have to own a rotary, but ya better know what one is.

Latest update for the Desert Run coming up in two (2) weeks.

I just put up the information for a "virtual run" in Google Earth. Check out the link below for details and to get the necessary file "Desert Run 08 - Total_Google.kmz".

The drive is broken into two parts: Safari to Anza Borrego and Anza Borrego to Major's Diner (Pine Valley). You may either download the file or directly launch it if you already have Google Earth installed.

If you canot make the drive, or just want to see how it shapes up, you can visit the link and experience the drive.

Latest Update

Everything looks good for next Sunday's run through the San Diego desert. Perhaps up to the mid 80's for the hottest areas, but still not bad. The route is as originally laid out.

Yesterday I did a scouting run to check the roads, locate gas stations, and just get a general feel for the run and what to expect. The hottest temperature was around 80, so it is expected to be a bit warmer next weekend. There are more than enough gas stations to cover anyone's needs. Stops are already planned in Borrego and Ocotillo. Other stops as necessary or desired.

In general, the roads are in great shape. However, there are a couple of areas with patches or some deterioration. There is construction on Valley Center Rd, between Lilac and Woods Valley, but hopefully they will not be working on Sunday.

The desert looks great this year. I have never seen so much green in the surrounding hills, desert and other areas. As I was driving along CA S2, the growth was so thick that it appeard the homes and desert floor had nice green lawns, as opposed to the usual sand and a few blades of growth sticking through.

On a side note, please bring an FRS / GMRS radio with privacy settings if you have one. It will greatly assist with keeping in touch.

The drive details are at the link below.
http://where-yat.net/sdrxc/Next-Drive.htm

Updates posted as necessary, with final items covered at the meeting on Saturday the 5th.

See ya on the 6th!
John

Awesome. Got another guy (myfc3s) who may be joining us. Also 2 of my classmates are interested in going. One dude with a MGB GT and another with an old Porsche, who may also bring the wife with either a Miata or M3.

I spent some time this weekend fixin' up the rex. Gonna do a shake down run this week. Sadly haven't got my 5 lug swap and new tires yet.

I'm gettin' excited though.

So from people I've invited...

In: Twof with the FC, may bring a passenger
Probable: myfc3s (FC), Porsche Guy
Possible: MGB GT* guy, Porsche Guy's wife, and my buddy with a Mazda 6.

* Assuming his car is still running in a week.

Wow, just skimmed this. Nice of you to set it up whodat. I wish I could come... I've been wanting to go on a cruise for a while (well, since Dave Seglla's a few months ago).

Final Update - April 6th Desert Run
===========================

Barring something unforseen, everything looks good for the drive tomorrow. The departure is the same, I've just repeated it below. There could be some drizzle tomorrow morning before we reach the desert and some wind in the desert, but nothing that should cause an issue.

As always, the latest is here:

So how did it go - any pics? I wasn't able to attend - work has been a major imposition to regular life recently...

Hopefully we can get another one in before the weather out there gets too hot.

As far as I am concerned, the drive went great!. But, I will leave that to others to comment as my opnion is biased.

Eight (8) drivers joined us and it was a good group. Had expected more, but their plans changed. Had hoped to get a few from Saturday's meeting, but probably next time.

I have attached a couple of pics, but others (twofer and shadow7) took a lot more. I didn't really make plans to take pics of the cars in motion. (A couple of pics are actually from my scouting run I did the week prior.) The final shot is everyone lined up along Christmas Circle, across from the restaurant, Carlee's. I really want the shot of twofer talking on the radio, taking pictures and trying to steer the car!

The food for lunch was good. We made it there just before 1:00 pm. That was good as there was a large crowd of motocyclists there and it took us a bit to get served. Not bad, though.

The weather was great; a bit cooler than predicted for out in the desert. The higher elevations were pretty chilly. That is, at the base of Mt. Palomar and the higher elevations of the desert.

We finished the run close to 6:00 pm in Pine Valley, I believe. Later than anticipated, but not bad.

In the future, I would really like to do a drive where we focus on taking some action shots along the way. That will take longer, but I believe drivers will like the results.

More to come.

Uh, oh yea ...
Ask Shadow7 about the interest shown by the CHP. Also, ask Jay (RX-8) about his conversation with the Border Patrol. Hey, the Border guy waved me through first, but Jay had to sit there and chat.

Later,
John

I was driving, giving directions to Steve's friend on the phone, working the walkie talkie, and taking pictures, all while doing heel toe downshifts.

Now that's multi-tasking!

It was a good cruise. We did hit some traffic and didn't get to open up on the mountain roads that much, but it was a good Sunday out. The country side is nice and green. (Of course, it's the greenish brown that passes for "green" in San Diego.)

So which format do you guys like better, the "horizontal frame" format I've been using for the meets and cruises, or the "Standard" format I'm using for my sale stuff?

Horizontal frame: http://www.clanwhy.com/twofer/rx7/
"Standard": http://www.sdrxclub.com/users/twofer/sale/

Yeah it was a little gloomy at first, but then it opened right up. It was actually cold up in the mountains.

Pictures!
