San Diego RX Club: Desert Run 2008 - April 6th
Departure Point
Date: Sunday, April 6, 2008
Meet: 9:30 am; driver’s meeting at 9:45am
Depart: 10:00 am (sharp)
Directions to departure point:
Safari Coffee (http://safaricoffee.com/Findus.htm)
Trip Details:
http://where-yat.net/sdrxc/Next-Drive.htm
I know April 2008, especially the first weekend, will be a busy month, but since we have not had a run for some time, I wanted to get this one in before the desert got too hot. People have been asking me for the last couple of months and I have been “out of sorts” since my car was not running. Got that taken care of by the March meeting and I have to stretch the legs!
This run will be a great one. We start in Escondido and end up in Pine Valley. The desert should still be putting on a great show, even if not at peak display. Estimated mileage is 180 miles, not including to and from the rendezvous points, and approximately 5 hours, not including lunch, etc.
This drive is open to anyone. Great if you have a rotary, but none required. Bring your SO's, other driving enthusiasts, etc. This is to have a great time enjoying driving our cars.
Please see the above link for all the details and any changes as may occur.
Here are pictures from one of our desert runs a couple of years ago. In the cars, the temp got to about 95F in mid-May. Still a great time.

Hope to see you there,

ps,
- This is just to get everyone warmed up for the Julian Pie Run on April 20th.
pps,
- Hitting the karts at Speed Circuit on the evening of April 5th should get one ready for this run. (No bumbing allowed, though.)

I hear ya. The ole crew was asking for a run and I am sort of strapped for time between work and personal travel.
Yea, it's a long run. We've never really gone for short runs. At least none that I've organized. Long runs are nice as they give one time to experience a lot of the roads around San Diego County.
Not everyone can make every event, but hope you can. You won't regret it. Check out one of our past runs along Old Hwy 80, paralleling I-8.

teddyrx2,
With all due respect, this is not a ploy to force Sunday events just to get around the recent "discussions" regarding alternate meeting dates. Your're entitled to you suspicions. But, I prefer to not inject that topic into another thread.
The club has been having a variety of Saturday and Sunday drives for the last 6 to 7 years, at least. Yes, mostly Saturday, though. The date was chosen for a variety of reasons:
- My own availability (I'd like to go if I plan it.)
- The desert this time of year is a great drive. We have done mid-May, but the temp can be a killer. 95F ambient is getting hot!
- I figured the day after a meeting is the best way to make sure everyone is up to date on the last information.
Feel free to join up for the long run.

2cute,
Would be great if you could make it.
I won't debate that it is a long drive. We've done over 200 in a day, as well. The current hurt with a long drive is the cost of gas. I just rationalize it as my cost of entertainment.
This is not one continuous stretch behind the wheel. There is the stop for lunch, as well as before and after. The map generally shows where the stops are located: Lake Henshaw, Borrego Springs (lunch) and Ocotillo. Possibly Desert View Tower if there is enough interest.

oh like i said trust me i know the drive VERY well.
in fact my grandfathers ashes are at the desert view tower you refer to.
its just one of those things. thats a long hard drive. if i can afford it and time allows for it i will be there but i cant make promises. i love the desert this time of year. all the plants are in bloom. its gorgeous. plus its still cool enough that its not to abusive on the cars.

Looks like there is a call for a list. Jeez, never really bothered with this before.
But I'm game for something different.
Don't think anyone cares about my grocery list. Probably even less about all
the "stuff" I gotta do to prepare for meetings next week. Then it must be who
the heck is making a commitment to go on this run. Let's give it a shot.
Remember, ya don't have to own a rotary, but ya better know what one is.
