Found a great video of the two vette's ripping up the Roval course. For anyone who missed the day this is about the best flavor of the track I've found...

NICE video. I love the sound of V8's at high RPM. Unfortunately you never hear that because 95% of Vettes are driven as grocery getters. I spotted an FD while the Vettes were pulling out of the garage at the Auto Club Speedway.

Late to the party but here a couple good pics I shot...
-Before and after on the brakes... Suckers got hot enough to make the powdercoat sticky but they never faded on me.
-My favorite place to be: working the BBQ. Older guy is my dad. First time I've given him a "serious" ride.
-The garage crew: Nemisis in the background.
-Fastest car I took down after stepping up a division.
Good times y'all...
Joel

I was running Carbotech XP-8s (notes on compounds here) and yes they were just about new prior to the event.
Is it possible I was just using a lot of brakes out there? I had constant passengers, and my car's not exactly a lightweight to begin with so I was probably pushing 3400 lbs under braking. Add that to the fact I never lost a drag race on any straight during any session and I know I was both moving and braking pretty deep.
I'll certainly experiement a bit once these are used up... It looked to me like I'd only get about 3 days out of the pads (pic may be a bit misleading as they dropped about 3/32"). Given the rotors still look mint I'm guessing I could probably go a bit more aggressive.

These pads aren't designed for your tractor, Joel, look here:
"Excellent as a front brake pad for lighter ITA, ITB, ITC, SRF, H4, H5, and other cars that weigh less than 2,400lbs. "
It looks like the XP8 is just like an HP+, but it might have a lower temp range. It looks like the XP12 is what your car needs (similar range to the 01).

Joel,
A couple thoughts here -
First, I would get a set of brake cooling ducts on the car. The Roval is very deceiving. It is pretty easy on brakes, especially considering the top speeds. The infield course is harder on brakes than the Roval. I like running cooling ducts as opposed to running more agressive pads. It keeps wheel bearings alive longer, and you get more life out of your rotors by running less abrasive pads. Plus street manners are better and you do not have to worry about running around town with cold brakes and slamming into someone.
Remember you did have R compounds, where most everyone else chiming in here did not. XP8s are an agressive street pad similar to the HP+. You probably would have cooked the XP8s on a track that was more brake intensive if you pushed hard. XP8s will probably work great at an autocross with R compounds, but may not be the best for open track duty. It just depends on your car, and how hard you are driving it. Carbotechs are easy on rotors in general, so you will always get more pad wear than rotor wear compared to say a Hawk pad. Generally XP12s and XP10s (depending on your brake feel preferences) are used with R compound tires.

FWIW the stock size rears got hot enough to do the same thing to the powder coat so it's not like they weren't doing any work at all. However, Robert's right, the prop valve wasn't dialed in and I did have bias set forward as a starting point.
I was running XP8s because that's what the carbotech folks recommended given what I explained about the car. Maybe I could use more but I think I might side with Ashley here. I don't want my rotors getting above 1350F in the first place. Ducting is definitely on my to do list.
What do you guys see for pad wear in a normal track day? Is it even apples to apples to compare my fast/heavy car to others here?

Just found this thread haha
I was excited to see some rotaries out there. I have been bugging Aaron about it and hopefully we will have a rotary car challenge soon
If you guys ever organize another day let me know!
Now I want to know who's red FC headlight cover we found on track at the end of the day

I bring my MR2 to SV events. My rx7 is too nice me thinks but I really should get it out there.
Is there another planned rotary day with SV?

If you get enough people together I will see what I can do. Enough people and maybe even your own run group.
And if I could I would let all rotary owners in for free but I am not the boss. Just a grunt
