Mazfest is pretty fun compared to Sevenstock. Mazfest offers a car show (which is kinda crappy IMO), a track day (you can give your buddies rides!), autocross, and ride alongs to a few lucky people in real race cars. You can bring a BBQ and cook your own food if you want and even take a dump in a real restroom if you want just for the heck of it

I think Sevenstock would be way better if it had what Mazfest has to offer. I see Sevenstock as a place to talk to friends, see some RX-7s and eat a burger within a 2 hour time frame. The rest of the day is well... kinda boring unless you get excited by watching some cars rev their engines or youre that very small percentage of guys that like to attend the technical talks. The morning staging area may be the highlight of the day where you can see/hear/smell everyone's car drive in... kinda like a cars & coffee for rotards

Funny that you guys have brought this topic up. Back after SevenStock 4 or 5, we (meaning the Belligerents) suggested that the event needed more attractions like the ones you all suggested. We caught some backlash from the old farts (Like WackyRicer ) and extreme enthusiasts who stated something to the effect of "...You want a bikini show, burnout, etc.. go to HotImport Nights or Lowrider show.."

All and all, I have always been greatly appreciative of Bern and company of the exhausting efforts they undergo in putting the event together. It is a free event after all but for it to progress, it needs more.

A battle of the rotary powered RX's vs. V8 powered RX's would make it interesting

I too appreciate all the effort put into making this event possible. After all, it is the biggest RX gathering of its kind but after all these years (Ive been attending for at least 10 years), the show needs some change to spice things up. A lot of us wanted some driving action included but I don't think RC Cars was what we had in mind

I think the change that had the most impact on Sevenstock was banning BBQs. That was a huge blow to the Paisa community I mean, RXs & carne asada just go together so well! The early Sevenstocks were about cars and cooking dead animals with your buds, correct? No BBQs is like telling a dog it cant stick its head out the window in a moving car. It's just not right!

Autoclub speedway's restrooms are the best! Theyre nice, clean and you dont have to pump your own water with your foot! They even have showers in there to throw your drunk buddy into

The issue wasn't BBQ'ing. It was because Wacky was trying grill up dog meat:

i lost that dog like 4 years ago!

but seriously, i think we just would like something new for future events to change things up some, or at least add to it. most people are out the door before 3PM and the locals are heading home to start on their 12 pack of keystone ice..

You know there lurking and reading these threads, and the one's past, I just don't know why they don't add to this event, if they know were getting tired of the same thing every year. Slowly there has been a decrease in attendance, and your right, when they took away the BBQ'S, that was pretty much it. But yet people are able to bring in pets and walk them around.

There are some good ideas floating around in the last few posts, They keep asking what the public wants to see, and we tell them, but yet no changes seem to happen. The rc car thing really needs to go, because that in its self is lame, and then on top of that it is in the staging lot accross the street lol. Then in order to keep cars, and spectators at the event, no car is allowed to leave till 2pm.

How about a rotary engine build off, first two man team to build the engine, and get it started win's a small prize lol...I dunno..

You know throwing mazfest, and 7 stock together would be a pretty good...

But I' am down for that "battle of the rotary powered RX's vs. V8 powered RX's" now that would be something...

Hold this **** at drag strip...BBQ'S are allowed, drinking is allowed, open parking space, all the cars could be parked in one centeral location, and could leave WHENEVER THE HELL they want...I mean that is a win win situation.

I think what is escaping a bunch of folks right now is

1) all the work these guys put in for the event to happen

2) attempting to do something outside the Socal area would be very difficult to organize if the organizers are in Socal.

3) There is nothing holding anyone back from organizing something the same weekend example the beach cruise on Sunday following SS

4) it's not just a gathering of the cars but of the people and while some folks may not attend or cannot every year there are plenty of other people to meet

5) It is Sevenstock, it's the Disney land of the Rotoryworld while things may be consistant there is something to be said for that in this crazy screwed up world we now share

Oh and Karack check your PM's, thanks

1. Agreed... the SoCal Club organizers do one heluva job.
2. Logistically it would be difficult to say the least for organizers. Not to mention the added expense of overnight lodging and gas for many local attendees who live nearby.
3. Many of our Arizona members did the beach cruise and loved it. One thing I would love to see is a swap meet in conjunction with the event, but understand the difficulties with permits and such with the City of Irvine that keep that from happening.
4. For me this is the main reason I attend, and the Rotary Engine (RE) focus. For organizers to open the event up to all Mazda's (ala Mazfest) would take away from the unique RE focus which IS Seventock. Nothing against Miata owners, but I travel to SoCal to see all things rotary and the latest innovations that our grassroots community has developed. The chance to meet up with Forum members, look over their project cars, ask questions and take away ideas to improve my ride. If your not taking the time to look over cars carefully and talk with owners, your totally missing the point. Not to mention direct access to Mazda execs, Koby, and others to ask questions, pick their brains and thank them for their support. I think a venue like Hidden Valley Park would give us more options for things to do, i.e., BBQ and volleyball for example.
5. I've always referred to the event as Christmas in September and will support it as long as the SoCal club hosts the event.

The organizers really do an awesome job at putting this together and am grateful theres a show like this specifically for all things Rotary. Like I said in my other post, theres a reason why this show is so big. People come from all over the world just to experience this event because of the quality of the show. For example, 7s day in Japan is similar to Sevenstock: a bunch of cars in a parking lot, yet a lot of us drool over their gathering.

Every year I hear more and more people say how the show would be much better if there was some action going on (like Mazfest) which most of us that have been attending for years would agree. It would be awesome if we had something like the idlers games (google it if youre not familiar with it) but I understand that these things are easier said than done and would require a bigger mountain of money and way more paperwork to get this done.

Sevenstock is awesome because its free to attend and show your car. Other shows charge for parking and an entry fee (JCCS). Would Sevenstock still get the crowds it gets if there was a cover charge and/or parking fee? Mazfest is $10 to get in and a lot of people complain about the charge. Before this gets too long, Sevenstock cant be beat for being free of charge and I'll keep going year after year as long as I can

7 stock being free can't be beat, but there is wiggle room LOTS of wiggle room for more action to be a part of it. Even if it cost $10 lol

Hell, JCCS is over $40. Even if the SoCal club charged $20 per car to get in I'd gladly pay. Most can't drive there and back home for $20 in gas. But, I don't think money is the issue. The main issue is liability and City of Irvine regs that keep them from doing more.

Oh, one other thing about Laguna. Most of us would get all the way there, then be banned for exceeding the dB level on our first "parade" lap around the track.

I've been nudging Bernie for years a nominal fund raising cover should be charged. But the answer is the desire to keep it as free flowing as possible with the T-Shirt and Raffle ticket salesbeing the primary residual cost cover generator. So buy lots and lots of raffle tickets and T shirts boys and girls.

In the BMW world theres Bimmerfest. It's like Sevenstock but HUGE. The entry fee to park inside the show is $20 per car (no matter how packed with people you get it) or $10 per person that walks in excluding kids 12 and under who get in free. Even with this cover charge, the show is huge each year. Granted, Bimmerfest is open to every single BMW, kinda like a Mazfest for BMWs, so the attendance is much greater than our small Rotary community at Sevenstock but the cover charge helps the show grow. Moving it to a different location shouldnt have a big impact on Sevenstock's attendance. Bimmerfest moved from Santa Barbara to Pasadena because they needed a bigger venue to host the show and they still get big turnouts.

I'm sure a lot of us wouldnt mind paying $10-20 per car to park inside the show if it means funding for a better event. Maybe we can get $5 worth of raffle tickets with our entry as a bonus for paying the cover charge? The money coming in from this alone can help speed up whatever changes are in the works to keep this event great.

Who gives a damn about free T's, Charging $10 for walk in's, kids 12yrs and younger free, and $20 to park and show, is nothing. If they did this, who ever the hell is running the show would benfit in a huge way. And not only that little wiggle room I was talking about would allow them to get jiggy with it...thats right lets party...

Yeah sure people are going to bitch and moan about it, but **** change is sometimes needed to make progress, and push forward, plus this would strain out the eye sores that show up and park inside as it is already lol...yeah wacky I'am taliking about you lmao

I kid
