Passing fix-it inspection

Has anyone here had to pass a fix-it inspection for having a loud exhaust? I have a fd with a dp, a high flow cat and a loud catback. If I buy the RB duals, will I have any chance of passing or am I going to need a stock exhaust for sure. Thanks

Sounds like you MIGHT be too loud, but the only way to know for sure is with a db meter.

Thanks. Do you know what a passing dB level would be?

Any distance they choose to measure, from an inch to a foot to a yard to...you get the idea.

Go to the ref and have them do the sound check, if it fails then you know, if it doesnt then all good.. if i remember sound checks are free. Atleast you didnt get a emssions ticket, otherwise id say just pay the fine.

I've been through this pleanty of times!! Basically, all you need to do with a fix-it ticket is swap out the exhaust with a stock one. Unless the ticket calls for a referee inspection, then your best bet would be to swap out all the illegal stuff with stock stuff. At the ref, they not only check the db level, but they also do a smog check.

When they do the db test they stick something inside the exhaust and keep the car steady at around 3500 rpms, that is where they check to the db level.

You know, if you have a silencer and it reduces the db level to the proper amount, you could have the referee certify that the exhaust is legit, so next time an officer tries to ticket you, just show that paperwork to him/her and they can't really do anything about it. That is assuming that the car passes emissions... or at least passes the day of the inspection

95 db? are you sure steve? That seems high for a car that new. The older the car, the louder you can be.

I searched the Vehicle Code book but could not find the exact rule. From what I remember the test is from 2 feet away at 3 qtr throttle, and 95DB is the limit.
