Hey, when does this thing start up? That's one thing I haven't seen mentioned. I'm not exactly a morning person, so if you're supposed to be there @ 7AM or something crazy I might just show up late & watch. Heh

Come on Mike. If Berry and I are going to make the drive that early in the morning then I know you can do it. You have less than half the distance to drive.

This is on picnic day for Davis, but I'll try to come down maybe with josh. I missed the last one and I don't want to get out of touch with everyone.

Bring it on Ashkun. Time for you to beat up on the beautiful FD of yours.

This goes out to everyone in the club. If any of you need parts, just let me know. My good friend's shop is up and running. He said that he will get us the best price on parts that we need. He sells Apex'i, HKS, GReddy, Haltech, and most other popular brands. He's also a rotary owner so he knows what he is doing. You guys have heard me mention him before. He's the guy with the 10th AE that is running a 3 rotor. I'll be glad to get you guys hooked up with any and all parts you need.

Ok, enough whoring up my buddy's shop for now. Take care everybody.

Zach

P.S. Buy parts from Reese!!

For autocross, you usually don't leave second gear. On the Oakland courses I would top out in second gear, but that's when I was NA. But, Stockton Fairgrounds is a different venue that calls for smaller courses, so you'll probably only have to make one gear change.

NICK try using goo gone, that stuff gets off anything that sticks. I used it on a bumper sticker that the dude before me put on my FD (IDIOT!) It makes the sticky mess like water and it just washes off.

From the SCCA website solo 2 FAQ...

What can I expect at a tech inspection?
Cars are checked for safety at each event before your first run. Generally, this task falls to an experienced autocross driver and the inspection is friendly. Your car must have a working seat belt, a good return spring on your throttle linkage, working brakes, a securely fastened battery, tight lug nuts, well-packed bearings, no excessive play in your suspension, and an interior free of loose articles. Street tires must have measurable tread depth and no cord showing. Any street car in reasonably good condition should pass this quick inspection without any trouble.
Often, cars are inspected ("tech'ed") at a specific tech area before being allowed on the starting grid, but occasionally cars are tech'ed on grid. Very often cars in the first run group of the day are tech'ed on grid for efficiency.

Bob maybe you could help me out on this one, but I thinks this is correct.
If you have an FD you will run in the SS (SuperStock) class, which is in the first half run group, so we'll have to be there by 7:30 or 8. And we'll run with the first group and work for the second. TII's run in the B-stock class. From what it looks like the B-stock runs last, run group four so you only have to be there before 11:30 to register and stuff. But come out and watch me and bob compete with C5's! It's my first time and my tires aren't very sticky so it should get Interesting (aka squirrrrly). Registration and tech inspection closes at NOON so if you plan to run your FC make sure you get registered before that. Edit: ALL NON TURBO Rx7's run in the E-stock, i dunno about the Supercharger tho! And mike the rx2 will be in the H-Stock Class and H-stock is in the 3rd run group which means you don't HAVE to wake up very early. All NA's and TII's will be in the 4th run group.
Anyways hope this helps you folks out.

I don't know for sure.

On a sentimental note, my first car that i ever had, my 87 rx7 that I wrecked over a year ago was sitting for about a year. I took off the fenders and bumper for wheel clearance as one fender was bent back a bit. Threw a new batter in it and it runs just fine. Loud as hell too cuz it's only got the precats as of now. It even drives straight at about 15 Mph, no shimmmmying from misalignment. I'm thinking of getting a quote to see how much to fix the front frame. from what i can tell its just the Radiator support and headlight support bar that is messed up and the fender support area is fuzzled up too. But I had it running and drove it around in my field, can't take it out on the street, not registered. I almost cried when I realized how much i missed that car But the beast lives on.

H-stock eh? Hmm, where did you find all that info on classes? I'm wondering if a modified RX-2 is still in the same class, I wouldn't think it would be but what do I know.

this thread grew quick. sorry i missed the bbq. my car was hella overheating, its still idles high, but i changed the radiator and fan clutch so at least it doesnt overheat and blow up. the fb rarely gets driven now coz its need front brakes, tie rod ends and shocks so i have to save up for that. i dont think i'm gonna make it on saturday but i'll be there on sunday. i'm gonna shoot for saturday and ask my manager.

btw... i got a fc tII fuel pump and filter i'll let go for $150. still in box. its original mazda too.

Well, that seems like what we souuld do, but it is WAY WRONG.....

I made the same mistake my first autocross a few years ago. I had the '91 T-II that Ron has now, and ran it in A stock (which it was at the time). Big mistake! Any car on street tires needs to run in STREET TIRE!
Super Stock is where the FD runs if you have...... R rated tires, bigger front sway bar, better shocks/struts and Cat back... i.e. all the allowable stock category mods. The tires alone are worth at least 2 seconds!

For all:
IF YOU ARE ON STREET TIRES, RUN IN STREET TIRE. ( RUN GROUP #1, WORK GROUP #2 ). I THINK THAT WOULD BE ALL OF US. YOUR CAR WILL BE GIVEN A PAX INDEX BASED ON ITS CLASS. IF YOU ARE STOCK, FIND YOUR CLASS HERE....

http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Lists/2005/stockm.html

IF YOU HAVE MODS NOT ALLOWED IN THE STOCK RULES, YOU WILL HAVE A TOUGHER PAX INDEX.
(THAT'S ONE REASON MY CARS HAVE REMAINED STOCK--TO BE MORE COMPETITIVE IN AUTO-X.)

Hope this clarifies things, we will have a better time if we run together anyway.

Reading this will help out first timers...

http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/faq/auto.htm

BTW, I'm getting there at 7:30 for several reasons. There's a few things you need to get done, (registering, getting car ready, getting tech'd, learing and memorizing course etc.). Being rushed won't help you drive well. If anyone needs advice at the event, get there early and I'll help if I can...

Bob

the list only shows FDs not FCs, and i doubt mine is classified as stock but i could easily enough put my stock airbox back in place and pull the boost controller and there is no way they would be able to tell the engine has been modified but i think the turboback 3" exhaust would disqualify me anyways for the stock class.. mods in sig V.

btw, i just got my new wheels put on, AE FD3S 5 spoke 17X8" with no spacers and no fitment or rubbing issues, 235/45R17 in the rear and 225/45R17 in the front. now that is a tight fit in the front... it looks a little 4X4ish until i get my new shocks and 1" Tein drop springs.

So pretty much we are all running in the Street tire class and then based on your mods, you run in separate Street Tire classes?

****...I'm still trying to convince my dad...he's using "What if something happens to your car and it's not driveable?" He thinks I should have a ****** trailer just in case.... Which we don't have. He said I could strip a lug nut, **** up the tranny, break an axle, etc...**** noone can fix unless you have a shop and do hella work...I swear he has no faith in my car

Also if I could auto X I would have to be in the SS class :S Since I have strut bars, exhaust, blah blah... I just want to learn to drive my car better. Don't really care to compete. Maybe if I go I can beg them to put me in the back :P

How street tire class index works...

A Viper can race against a Neon in street tire, they have different PAX indexes. For example, a Viper's actual time is multiplied by .8 (80%) and the Neon would use .7 or 70% because it's a slower car. You then have adjusted times which are used to determine the winner. These are just examples, the actual indexes for the classes are on the SCCA website.

Faster cars are handicapped more so that slower cars can compete....
