N/A FC to T2 Swap

I really need some help. IM going to do this Saturday and Sunday.

And i need the car running by the end of the week. But i dont know what parts i will need. I have searched the forums for more info but didnt find anything.

I have a 86 FC blown motor. and a t2 motor with 66,000 miles. would it just bolt up?

Any help is much appreciated.

What shape is your n/a tranny? You could bolt it up yes, but might shorten the life of your n/a trans.
Or do you have the t2 trans?

You would need the t2 diff, and the exhaust.
Do you have the stock dp? or have you no exhaust pieces at all?
Your stock catback *should* bolt up fine, but everything before that will need to be replaced.

What year is your motor? You're gonna have lots of "fun" if it's an s5(89-91)

i know from experience, s4 exhaust is s4 exhaust. it sounds like **** with the NA system on, but i drove with it like that for 3 months. keeps the cops off my ***.

I was converting my NA 91 FC to a turbo II FC.

I needed

-Turbo II Transmission (I had a rebuilt S5 Transmission)
-Turbo II Starter (I had a rebuilt starter)
-Turbo II Clutch assembly + Flywheel and counterweight (all ACT pieces)
-Turbo II Driveshaft ( I used a mazdatrix 2 piece)
-Turbo II Engine
-Turbo II Rear Subframe

Note: While you are doing this, i would recommend doing all the service work while the engine is out of the car: IE: Belts, fluids, plugs, wires, TPS Sensor (if it is going bad) etc.... if you want the car to run its best and be reliable.

I had all the above except the last 2, i moved out of my house and i sold the car for dirt cheap with essentially a beefed up brand new Turbo II Drivetrain lol.

The swap should be pretty easy since you aren't crossing series.

Use the N/A harness that's on the car, that way you won't run into alternator wiring problems. The N/A has alt wiring in the engine harness. The TII doesn't.

You wont have any problems with injector impedence, since 86's and 87's both have low imp injectors.

If you are using the s4 turbocharger, you might have to add a few things to use twin scroll. I don't know how off the top of my head, but a quick search of "swap + twin scroll" should get you something.

Ideally you should swap a whole TII driveline for this, but if you want to use the N/A tranny, that's fine, but use an s4 n/a flywheel and clutch.

That's all I have for now.

Here's the Factory Service Manual, it will help you a ton:

If you're using the n/a rear end, you'll have to get a custom driveshaft made to mate to the TII trans.

To clarify an earlier post, you don't need a TII sub frame. But it might be easir as the alternative is swapping out the NA half shafts for TII half shafts. Sometimes those half shafts can be a b i t c h to get off. Subframe allows avoiding that potential pita.

As to getting it done in one weekend, good luck. I guarantee, no matter how complete a swap "kit" you think you have you will for sure be missing one or two things. For instance, ASpec TII throttle cable if quite often forgotten. ASpec is different than a JSpec.

im doing this same swap. except my car is an 87 s4 with a jdm s4 TII. the only real problem ive encountered is that the plug that plugs into the very top by the passengers right foot is like 1 foot short on the jay dee emm engine harness. now if all your **** is usdm, it should be a breeze. make sure you get the s4 TII knock box (s5 came with them built in to the ecu or sum **** like that) and as far as the diff and drive shaft goes, you can use your na diff, just go find the TII drive shaft take the base plate off, and replace it with the base plate offa your na d/s

wait, are you still doing this swap? cos i just read the last post hahahah

NO i have had this engine for a few years now. I have to research on how to rebuild it. Myself. And the cheapest rebuild kit i found was $1k .

I would have bought the car and did this over time as a project. But my woman wont let that happen. I would die.

So now im looking for a rebuild kit. and a 1st gen rx7. 1st gen will be my DD till i get the t2 rebuilt then swaped into that.

Funny story. (kinda.) My lady hates rx7s. And she asked why i liked them so much. i told her its because of the engine. Its not like anything else. Its very unique , and i cant beleave it works so well.

I showed her how Normal engines work. Then how a Rotary works. (off wiki) . And she was mind blown. She was ahh struck. Couldn't beleave i would like something so unique.

Pics for fun. My old project. ( t2 was going in that.) then lost the garage. T2 in the background.
was my brothers old car. left it in a field for 5 years.
