Man, I might bring a sleeping bag and crash at Mike's work! I'll be living up in Temecula by then. Now that the DD situation is under control, I want to get back to the FD. If it's not the fuel pump, I'm ******* stumped Teddy.
personally i think idyllwild is a lot prettier personally. but then again i havent been up there in a while
My plans are as such. I am planning on it for next year, I have already looked into the import duty and have someone in mind for the Mexican broker in Ensenada. Key point is that Mexico only allows up to a certain year model and make. This will be my project for 2009 summer of!!!!!!!!!!!
of your car is VERY likely to end up like those 2 rhd silvias at ecology.

^I think he plans on registering it in Mexico. The cops may try to give him a hard time, but what can they really do? "Hola senor, no hablo englais..." or such. Mikey the Korean ex-pat from Mexico!

Actually, you can bring them in via another guy:
http://www.kaizoindustries.com/uni/
Kaizo Ind. inspects the body and strips the car down to chassis. You get a shell that is a Kaizo body (and current year, say 2008; rather than a 1999 R34 GT-R). It's basically a piece by piece game. When you register it, it's a Kaizo Industries 2008 Coupe. So it doesn't say on the registration/title it's a R-34 GT-R, but who cares right?
Edit: They do all of the DOT BS for you i.e. windows, bracing blah blah blah.

^^that guy is legit.
he was an ex-cop.
he figured out the loop hole that we knew about for some time and handled it.
and its not a matter of DOT when you get a car from him.
its a matter of it being registered as a kit car.

Oh I know. I'm saying they take care of the DOT crap for you, so basically you have a road legal Kaizo body with complete interior. Just drop in engine, drivetrain, and fuel delivery. The registration is kit compliant, but isn't their a 500 kit car permit limit in Cali a year? Maybe I'm thinking of the exemption...
Either way, it's do-able. I'm seriously considering this in the next year or two. Mr. Mike is another great resource for 'other' means.
Edit: Now I remember, it's smog exemption.

basically there was a loophole that some knew about. the DMV being one of them. but it costs a good bit of money to handle this. which is why those of us that knew about it didnt bother with it.
basically the state allows xxx amount of kit car registrations a year. the stipulation on these being registered as kit cars is they go to a certified person to verify it as a kit car or w/e it is.
so this guy goes to the DMV on 1/1/xx and sits at teh DMV till it opens. he then proceeds to buy all the kit car licenses for the year.

I see cars here all the time from Mexico that they don't sell here in the U.S. They're just 'visiting' as Mikey would be. and yes........god-damn Motorex and that crook of theirs.
i understand that but those cars were deemed as not allowed in ca. the skyline is. except the few that got grandfathered in due to the motor-ex debacle.
he might never run into any problems. but then again he may spend all that money to find that he cant do anything with the car other than put it on a track.
i have a buddy with an r23gtr that was one of the motor-ex cars and he gets hassled all the time over it. and it is legally registered here.

Teddy- this Mini car show/meet/gathering will be interesting, i think we should have a small but decent show up. I am planning on providing free food/drinks for the first event so worse come to worse, we'll have a few free loaders hanging out.LOL I like to get some of the peeps from meets like FUSION café to show up as well. Better the mix better the event. IMO
Archie and @cute---- i will not be utilizing any loop hole when time comes for me to import the Nissan. the Vehicle will be registered in BC California(TJ) region and I'll be Holding a B/C license in order to transport and operate the vehicle.
The point is to not beat around the bush and dance around any LOOPHOLE!!!
It may seem Like a big hassle to get the car registered and obtain A BC Mexico license, But it is a lot simpler then having to dance around the issue here in Cali.

but what do i know?
Jen-I see your point and the current info you are stating is correct. however this is still in the gray area for me. It makes lot more sense (cause i have access and resource) for me to import from Japan to Ensenada Mexico, pay the Mexican duty and broker fee and have the car registered in BC California and then have current plates and tag from T.J.. As Far as driving the vehicle here in San Diego will not be a big issue given that I'll have a BC license and legal registration from BC, Mexico For the vehicle.
