Looking for advice how to handle an issue with a shop

@Erosangel , any updates? I noticed you're liking recent replies here, but do you have your car back and does it run?

I’m currently living in England and I have had a lot of luck with my shop here. I’m moving back to NC in a couple years and bringing my 7 with me, I planned on having Angel Motorsports work on my car of issues came up but by the looks of it, I’ll just be better off learning how to build my own engines. And to the OP, man I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I know you want to stay on good terms with John to not further complicate things but I don’t think defending him is helping your credibility either.

Hey mate, not sure if this thread is still relevant to you but a mechanic recently tried to rinse me for $6500AUD and if it is, all I can say is speak to him in person and let him know that the time frame is unacceptable. You might have to cut your losses and take the car out but expect all your money back. Not sure about foreign law, but if you take it to small claims he can carry on about the money he's 'lost' while your car has been collecting dust in his shop and the fact that there wasn't a proper deal of sorts because it was all in cash. I disagree with above posts about you being screwed though - they're car people just like you and without knowing much about anything, I suspect the money for their own personal projects mostly comes from smaller stuff like piston rebuilds and standard services (hence the reason he hasn't bothered with your project at all). In my case, I didn't bother negotiating anything over text and drove down to see him and sure enough I got the lot back. If he tells you to take the car and get out, whatever, take it - just make sure you get back what you paid. Reputation is important to businesses and I doubt he wants to be known as the chap who sat on a rebuild for 3 years, regardless of how many high-profile drivers he might've worked with. Best of luck to you mate, what an awful situation to be in.

does anyone know Rob Dahm's username here? Perhaps he can be tagged here and can ask John Vargas about what the deal is with this... I just saw John in Rob's YouTube video from 5 days ago. Rob posted on his own Facebook on Jan 14 about an issue very similar to this that he has been having with Abel Ibarra, of all people. He mentions money being taken without services or products being delivered, the "one more thing needed" excuses, and numerous other things that have been in limbo for years. That's the same crap we're seeing here, and unfortunately with another name in the rotary business. Maybe if John hears it from a big name like Rob, he'll get his **** together and do the right thing... whether that's to get this project done or refund the man's money. And the other part to this, while unlikely, I'd hate to see Rob's 4-rotor project be delayed any further if John pulls the same crap that's he's doing to @Erosangel . Rob's channel is one of the few YouTube channels I enjoy watching.

Just saw the tag. John only stopped by to look at the broken 3 rotor pieces to potentially send to his brother. He noticed the crack on the iron abel sold me. So that put a stop to that work before it started. Rebuilding my billet 4 rotor has me excited to finihs my other 4 rotor myself. So my priorities shifted

Ridiculous
Same here. Ill be picking my car up end of this month tired of hearing their excuses. Calls get forwarded and messages ignored. Relying on email is just as bad. Horrible way to run a business, is there any decent shop left in this community?

one good thing about this thread (besides the entertainment) is that it saved me from ever taking my car there for any kind of work. I'm only 4 miles away from the CA location.

Hope progress is good, Erosangel. Your patience is more than deserving of a healthy, running car.
