Your correct 100% as far as I am concerned. Waste of time unless there is more HP involved.

The simple part is: once you modify the engine after the exemption, it's no longer exempt! You're in the same boat as any other person tampering with emissions equipment.

BAR controls SMOG testing (and other things) and their referee's certify a modified car and issue the "Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Vehicle Identification Label"... CARB makes the laws.

Ding ding ding... we have a winner.

I could care less about the technical issues with this crap. All I care about is how I am going to bend the kid over backwards and make his day hell when I pull him over and discover he has tried this ****.

I highly doubt a cop will care about some nose pickage. You should see the gross **** that we have to deal with on a regular basis.

I couldn't handle an environment like that. I would lose my temper and have beaten those prisoners.

That is nasty, inmates shouldn't do that to anybody, especially a CO/peace officer. Any inmate that does something like that should be sent directly to solitary confinement and PC'd up. I would make sure when the fish is transported to IRC, that the CO's at MCJ know what the fish did while housed at PD/substation while awaiting transport. All people should be treated fairly, with dignity and respect. What fish try to pull sometimes is incomprehensible.

SoCal smog stations, i guess you guys will soon be having some "unusual customers" in your near future.

hazw8st, Since some of the people are running propane in their car to pass/exempt from smogging their cars, how many of them have actually tried to dyno their cars to see what they're putting down on the dyno? What is the rating of PROPANE as in octane?

If they make the same or more power as 91 octane, then im ALL go for your kit.

hazw8st, please PM me more information about how can run my car on PROPANE.

Well since I have officially hijacked this thread, I will continue...

It is really frustrating and disturbing to see all the rights that these inmates have. For example, they get to see a doctor in a day and it only costs 3 dollars. Medication is free, and they get 3 hot meals a day with milk and coffee in the morning.

Not to mention the laws that state how much recreation time they get in a given week.

Inmates get treated better than civilians. It cost an arm and a leg to get health care. I say, if your homeless, i guess you would want to go to jail where you get free meals, free housing, and almost free medical care. LOL!!!! It is a funny thing how the people care so much for the people in JAIL and not so much for the people who is breaking their back to feed their children just to get by.

What ever happened to this clown? I hope my little email to CARB had nothing to do with it.

i talked to hazw8st and he said hes been racing rotarys for a while.... so i doubt it'l not work with rotaries.

and Fumanchu... i can understand if you ask people and find out about how this works to help us out..... but why would u give someone a even harder time if they went through with somthing like this

even if that statement you made was a joke... it really gives us some insight about how you guys think/entertain yourselves.

tell me.... what good are you doing to the community by sending a RX7 brother (or any other respected car enthusiast) to the reff or ticketing them for the 39084092 parts in it? now if it was some douche in a JDM tyte civic... or going 80 in a 50... or if hes is being just plain disrespectful, then i understand.... but besides that... i see no reason of even pulling the guy over.

Hmm... maybe because I am paid to enforce laws.

For the most part, I really don't care about modified cars, but when people use loopholes in the system is when I actually become an ***.

You're using a loophole. Not a 100% legal method.
So now you're bitching that Fumanchu is pointing stuff out?

I find this topic interesting, but not for the reasons that it was originally posted. I would love to find a viable method of converting a car to an alternative fuel in a manner that would provide reasonable performance and is completely legal (not falling into some loophole).

What kind of performance can you get out of a propane-converted car? Ethanol conversion is pretty basic, and has been proven to provide the ability to make more power (anyone see the E85 Koenigsegg CCXR at Geneva this week?). Unfortunately E85 is still fairly hard to come by. Propane, on the other hand, is everywhere.

If all these "tuners" spent half the time really making alternative fuels work in the industry as they do trying to find loopholes to make their illegal modifications work, we'd probably have some decent options for some real high-performance, clean, legal alternative fuel modifications.

Well.....after some research and having a colleague talk to a friend of his that works for a company that actually does propane conversions, here's the rundown on Propane VS Gasoline:

Propane Pro's:
Higher Energy Value
Higher Octane (yay....higher detonation resistance)
Less Molecular Weight
Higher AF Ratio
Cleaner burning
price is somewhat cheaper

Propane Con's:
Need to run a heavy cylindrical or round shaped pressurized tank
Injectors MIGHT ned to be replaced
Fuel lines need to be replaced
Some people have an aversion to filling a pressurized tank
Unless the compression ratio (or boost) is increased, the fuel economy will be worse than gasoline
Kind of hard to find a propane filling station at 2 in the morning when you're driving around after a night of fun.
Supposedly they also have a harder time starting than gasoline fueled engines.

this whole system/country is built on loopholes.

you use the loopholes to get on top... and when your on top you make sure those looholes are still there or create more loopholes to make sure you stay on top.

and Fumanchu... im not attacking/ranting you.... had a somwhate "aggressive" question/statement lol
