I'm sorry such a terrible thing happened to you, good luck with recovery. I go to school in NorCal and spend summers down here, but I'd be glad to help you if I can. For what its worth, my dad broke his back twice on motorcycles, had to relearn walking both times, and today (at almost 60) he can still race cars, sail small boats, swim, and has a personal trainer helping him get into shape. You can do it too, keep up your positive attitude and it will all work out. Godspeed, Josh

Angry Accident

I am very sad to hear htis has happened to you. There is a lesson to be learned by all that are reading this. 1). Why were you in a car with someone that was drunk? 2). Were you also drunk so you could not drive?. 3) Why did you not have your seat belt on?. I am glad that you seem to have a positive attitude.
For all those that drink and drive, stop and think about it!!! He just turned 20 and now his life is altered for ever. It's not COOL to DRINK and DRIVE. It's pure STUPIDITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In this case one person being driven by an idiot that is drunk wound up having his friend seriously injured. What about the poor innocnet people that drunk drivers kill every year and walk away from it.
In my opinion they should be tried for murder!!!
Yes i am angry seeing this. When i was 20 i lost my wife to be by a drunk driver.
My brother was killed by a DRUNK driver. I have alot of people i know that had friends and family killed by drunk drivers.
When are people going to wake up and be responsible?
All i can say if i see someone driving erratically i call it in. the life i save may be theres or someone innocent. rx7doctor

Totally sorry to hear about your accident. My girlfriend's sister is also paralized from waist down, she goes to this physical therapy called "project walk" here in san diego. Anyway, gets all her body parts excercised. She drives a Chrysler minivan, the whole door opens up and this ramp slides out pretty cool. I drove it once just because i liked the ramp. Not too bad for her condition. I will definitley try to drive up there some time with the fd.

PM'd you as well.

Hey Doug, keep your positive attitude with you always, and you will walk and drive again! My Aunt and her boyfriend went over a cliff in Alaska because of black ice on the road a few years ago. Her boyfriend died and she was paralyzed from the waist down and was told she'd never walk again, was on the front of the newspaper and all (Yeah, it was that bad). She now owns a gym in central california and teaches the majority of the classes at the gym. If you hadn't heard she was in the accident, you'd have never known. She walks around and does everything without a problem at all, like it never happened. You will get better, just keep working at it!

I'm up for going up to visit if someone wants to get a group together, once I get my fd to pass smog that is :-(

Why don't you just say the obvious? You can't type when you're paralyzed from the neck down.

****, it takes too long to type that way (why don't you try it?), and, you have to think about lead poisoning.

yes I know how old is this thread (actually 8 years BTW) as I remember when it was created. I always felt extremely bad for Dougie and from time to time this thread pops in my head. Anyway you can't say 100% for sure that if there was an improvement there would have been an update. Hence hoping someone knows him...

Hey! I saw your story a while back. Don't know ya but you popped into my head when another friend said he had to give up racing due to his rotator cup or something. He's an way older guy.

Anyway I remembered that Volvo was working on Joystick controls. I don't think it would be to difficult to swap your car to automatic and tap this into a brake control.

Boat engine control joystick - QLMarine - Videos

Amazing how fast technology works. I'm hoping you'll have better legs than the rest of us in 10 year.

Good luck man.
