I don't street race, I have catalytic converters on my car, I pay taxes, I am a safe driver and always follow the speed limit.

Hell, the government is even funding the company I work at because the research I do at my job is solely to help vehicles pass emission laws. Who gives a rat's *** if I want to add an intake to my car.

Even given such, chances are some no better knowing *** bag cop or law enforcement agent, or even some politician that classifies all motorsports and car enthusiasts as street racer ricers will pull me over to tell me to go get an emissions test or to register my car in CA.

That is because a lot of those people base their sole existence on enforcing rules that may or may not be logically justified.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what cops do for our community, but sometimes they need to think about the bigger picture, and not just enforce laws that are predetermined for everybody. California DMV's also need to get a damn clue, it doesn't need to be so expensive and so much of a hassle.

you have to write a different price for the car. if you pay $4k for a car, on the bill of sale, write a different amount, like $400. cost me $63 to register my car.

Fumanchu, what is the penalty for driving without a license (either because it's expired, revoked, or the person didn't have one in the first place)?

How does that compare to the penalty for most tuner-related laws such as driving a car that violates emissions laws (removed cats, non-CARB bolt-ons, etc)?

How many lives have you personally seen that were disrupted (wrecks, damage to life or property) due to street racing, and how do those numbers compare to other violations such as DUI?

I'm not trying to justify street racing (I prefer autocross), but I personally think that there are other violations that should be given more media attention. When is the last time that you heard about a horrific drunk-driving accident, or a big inter-agency drunk driving crackdown?

PS, I realize that the various law enforcement agents' jobs are to simply enforce existing laws, not to shape policy or influence what the law says. However, you've already mentioned that you need to have a good understanding of what the law says in order to do that.

I am not to sure of the fines since I do not deal with the side of government. I am just aware of the corresponding vehicle codes. Same with emission violations.

Honestly, since I have been an officer I have not come across any street racing. But when I was a tuner, I saw a dozen or so accidents over the years. Mostly minor(just property damage), but one of them I lost a friend.

By far, DUI's cause far more damage. For one, my county is one the worst places to get a DUI due to fines and jail time. Our agency and neighboring cities operate DUI checkpoints numerous times over the years, and it is the CHP's number one priority. I absolutely dispise people who drive intoxicated above the legal limit. I have personally lost more people to DUI's than I have fingers to count them on. It's quite sad and I am not really sure if we can ever lower the numbers. Even with the super harsh fines we have imposed. I talk to DUI drivers all the time and they always tell me that even though they were aware of the fines, they didn't care at the time.

Excuse my grammar and spelling. For once, I really don't care if it looks like a highschooler wrote it.

I considered doing that, but by doing that you are already bending the rules. That is saying something about the fees to begin with.

Remember, the seller sends in paperwork as well as the buyer in relation to changing title. So, one loose end to consider regarding price paid reporting.

I understand the strict emissions laws considering we are the most populous state in the union but I don't get why things like FMIC, intake, exhaust, etc; are illegal if they do not affect the sniffer results.

The problem with that is that then you have to live in Florida (Yuck).

I'd rather have all the laws and regulations than live in land o' swamps (and bugs, and cubans) called Florida.

Not to mention hurricanes. I will stick with my smog laws and twice-in-a-lifetime earthquakes.

No, sheets... I forgot about the Hurricanes... I have seen one of those things pick up a car...

And I hear (don't know if it is true or not) that there are parts of Florida that the smog is worse than LA/SD when the wind isn't blowing in FL. All because they don't care about smog rules

where in the hell did you hear that at, you made me almost laugh a lil bit.... FLORIDA is one of the top smogg-less states in the usa. the top ones were like north dakota and some other state in the top 3.

and that the wind was wasnt blowing WTF... florida is a peninsula how the hell is there no wind we have the best wind imaginable with both seas blowing
