soooo I was on my work break and i decide to hit up the local 7-11 near long beach state university. I get my 99 cent iced tea and decide to head back to work, approaching my rear is a bike cop, and in my head alls im thinking is, dont pull me over, dont pull me over... As if it fell in place the blue and reds start flashing.. "FUCKKKK"
so i pull over and he asks me why my car smells like unburnt fuel and why theres black soot all over my pipes.. I play stupid and tell him i dont know and the owner i bought it from did all the engine work, lol...
so he tells me to pop my hood, haha you shoulda seen his eyes... i have a fmic, bov, alot of shiny **** etc etc... He points at my turbo intake which has a corksport filter on it. He states " theres your problem, you have a K&N intake" hahaha he doesnt even notice my smog pump is completely removed and blocked off.
Hes quite upset that im in a full ford mechanics uniform and dont know anything about my car..
soooo by the end he gives me a ticket, he states that its a fix-it ticket for an illegal intake, and he gives me 10 weeks to get it fixed because "my car is rare and the parts must be hard to come by".... i just paid for a "smog" and my question is do i have to go to a referee for a fix-it ticket, or just get it resmogged? anyone have any similar experiences?let me know.
any help is appreciated

should i find a smog pump and bracket to slap on?
alright, ill find a way to modify the n/a air box or somethin
chrome stuff as innn? the only chrome thing i really have is the intercooler piping, but im pretty sure thats legal.
the cop kept saying something about taking it to the "sniffer" whatever the hell that is. I asked him if i had to see a ref and he said no. just take it to the "sniffer".
im thinkin i gotta take my car back to the tuner. It does smell pretty damn bad and noticeable, im thinkin its running too rich, and i dont have an AFR. there is a ton of soot on my pipes as well. I can see as to why he pulled me over... this is upsetting.

Remove ALL of the FMIC and install a factory top mount intercooler and bypass valve.
Install all of the smog pump equipment.
None of that is legal at all.
If there is no CARB number on the aftermarket part, it's illegal.
Now you could be lucky and have only gotten some sort of smog check/visual write off ticket where you have to take it to get smogged and visually inspected, but even then you will need to do what I mentioned above if you take it to any reputable shop.
Read the ticket he gave you, it will tell you where you have to take the car.
If it's to hard to understand you can just google what the phrases are for your ticket and should find some simple explanation's of what they mean.

yeah, he said the ticket would get here in about a week, so ill check it out when it gets here.
good thing the cop gave me 10 weeks to get it fixed.
Im sick of smogging... I am most likely going to pick up something that is smog exempt. ohhh lets sayy a s30 z?

Heh, that's the direction I went.
Be prepared to spend WAY more money on that S30 than you have ever put into the Rx-7. The cheapest semi-running S30 I could find was $1800 and need's the frame rails replaced, alot of bodywork, the interior is stripped, and need's all new suspension and every peice of window rubber.
I have about $3500 into that S30 right now which includes the cost of the car.
I need all new poly bushings in the rear, all new shocks/springs, all the rubber for the doors and glass, interior, replace the rails and a whole lot more that I don't feel like typing out haha.
Just scored a complete 1971 S30 from a local friend for $700 that will fix alot of what I need for my Z.
Common replacement is all new floor pan's and frame rails as well as the battery tray area and the side skirt area's. The one I just picked up has 2 4 inch hole's in the driver's side floor pan and that's just what I saw by looking in through the window haha.
Anyways, just trying to show you it's not a cheaper route to go.
+1 to Mel on the Pre-1976 car's price's going up
A non running S30 is Gold booked at $2000 in crappy condition to give you an idea of how hard it is to find a good Z for a decent price.
( Looks like Gold Book is gone now and there's just some new autotrader classics in place of it...

Im not gonna buy a project s30, i plan on dropping between 6-7 grand for a NICE one.
Im going to daily drive it and do the suspension(coilovers), rear disc brake conversion, and new bushings, tires/wheels. within the first couple months.
While im crusin around I will also have a L28 et motor chillin at home on a stand getting prepped to be dropped in. with the stock turbo and injectors, with minor upgrades such as headwork, intercooler, throttlebody and a megasquirt it should put around 275 horsepower to the ground. thats plenty for a daily
Im not tryin to be an ***, i LOVE my rx7, i just get way too much attention from the popo with it. I need something that will still get me into trouble, but not in trouble for emmision issues..

Depending on how the cop wrote the ticket, you don't have to go to a reff because it's only a fix it. So you make it look stock and call the cop or find a cop then ask them to look and your car and sign the ticket saying you fixed it.
I thought intercoolers were all legal upgrades? If it only have to be checked off by a cop, put the stock airbox back in and leave all the smog pump / intercooler setup on. Tell them the intercooler is legal and don't they won't know to look for an air pump. Do it well before the 10 weeks is up though in case they reject you.
dood no way...! i just got pulled over too..lol i was at a meet and the cops came and kicked us out...right when i pulled out of the parking lot...one of them ******* came behind me and flashed his lights. im thinking "r u ******* kidding me?!" pulled me over gave me a fix-it-ticket for modified exhaust (racing beat catback
and window tint. car sounded loud so they considered it modified exhaust....lovely

ill see what the ticket is when it comes in the mail, if it just has to be signed off by a cop, then thats gonna be cake, half of them dont even know what the hell a rotary is. My neighbor is a LBC cop too, so thats always a good thing
