FINALLY Back into an FD!

Well the owner accepted my offer for the car and I go tomorrow to do all the paperwork and take it home. Ideally, I wanted a black on black single turbo touring car, but this car was in great shape body and interior wise. No flaws at all. Sooner or later I will paint the car black and swap the tan interior.

The car and engine was built from the ground up by Rick @ Rick's Rotary in Pleasanton. When I had my old RX7, he did some work on my car, so I knew that the car was well built by a reputable builder.

It does have a hot start problem and worse case scenario it will need new 3mm seals or apex springs in order to fix the problem. I was quoted $3500 out the door for the rebuild so the price that I got the car for reflects that cost.

I am extremely excited to be back into an RX7. I had a 94 FD a few years ago and ended up having to sell it at the time and have yet to find a car that put a smile on my face like that car did. I have a lot of plans for the car (tint, wheels, paint, black interior, suspension, possibly burnout kit or upgrading turbo etc.)

Here is the complete mods list, the car will also come with FEED sideskirts that he hasn't had installed yet.

1994 Touring Edition (moon roof, leather seats, boss sound system, etc.)
5spd Manual
about 68,000 ORIGINAL mi
about 2,000 mi on newly rebuilt ENGINE
about 2,000 mi on newly rebuilt TRANSMISSION

Engine Rebuild + Mild Port (this included NEW rotar housings, 3mm seals, etc.)
Unorthodox Pulley Set
APEXi Power FC + Commander
HKS Twin Power Ignition System
Newly Rebuilt w/ same miles on it as newly rebuilt engine.
Stage 3 Clutch and lightened flywheel
A-Spec 500R T4 Single Turbo
A-Spec Stainless Manifold
Boost Controller (is also used as the boost gauge and fits in the a-pillar gauge pod)
Greddy Type-RS BOV
Tial 44mm Wastegate
RE-A Dual-Tip Cat-Back Exhaust System (JDM)
A-Spec Down Pipe
A-Spec Mid Pipe
RX-7Store V-Mount Intercooler Kit + Modified KOYO Radiator
Greddy Throttlebody Elbow
FDNewbie Import, Dual Oil Coolers w/ Black Setrab Cores
Never installed Coolmist WATER INJECTION KIT I will include w/ the purchase of the car
Eibach Pro-Kit Springs
Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable gas Shocks
Resurfaced Rotors
Hawk HP+ Pads
Received a completely NEW Montego Blue (same as stock color) Paint job.
R1 front spoiler
Greddy Strut Bar
Short shifter
New Miata Battery has been relocated to bin behind passenger seat (very popular location)
A/C Delete

Here are pictures of my old RX7, still miss it to this day

And to end properly

Wow that car is beautiful with great paint too, too bad you don't like it. And it looks like its already got tint so I'm not sure what you're planning to do with that. Also, unless I'm very mistaken, that doesn't look like a vertical mount intercooler to me, but rather a giant stock mount.

I don't think that's the car he's buying... that's his old car...

It doesn't have a sunroof either in the picture as described.

Oh shoot you're absolutely right. I read the mod list then skipped directly to the pictures, not reading the one line disclaimer in between. That makes more sense now, haha. Good catch Farkel.

UGH! So the seller just texted me saying he is not comfortable with the price after we agree'd and have all the details written up/done for the bill of sale. I told him I am firm on it, so we will see later tonight if he ends up backing out of the sale.

Well, the deal is back on, not going to say the car is mine until I actually take the keys from the seller since I seem to jinx myself.

Wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed for me!

I remember your old car, I always thought it was sick. Didn't you sell the FD to get a LS2 GTO

Yea, got a 05 GTO, added headers, cam, wheels, etc etc.

423rwhp/393rwtq. Powerful, comfortable, but no where as fun as driving the FD. I'll take a stock FD over my GTO...now I'll have a single 500R FD and will take it 100x over the GTO

I have a lot of plans for the car, but like I said, first thing is getting the hot start fixed. T-minus 4 hours until I get the new FD as long as he doesn't backout.

Here are pics of the GTO I had

Yeah, I was just giving you a hard time. I actually like those cars simply because of the reasons you stated, it's pretty nuts how easy it is to get a lot of reliable power out of those things. Only thing is that they're a dime a dozen and kinda look like a Cavalier on steroids. I think there is no replacement for an FD, but hey I'm biased so don't listen to me Good luck with the new car!

I am home with my new RX7!

I am sooo excited that I am finally back into the car. He brought the car to the credit union and after a few problems and hold ups here and there, we finally got the loan paid off and then paid him the difference in another cashiers check. He handed me the key, showed me all the documentation and some other things and I drove it back! Like I said, the car has hot start problems and we were in the credit union for probably 30 minutes or so but the car started up. Car drove and boosted fine (I didn't go WOT because we were in traffic and I am not used to the power of this car yet, so I'm learning how it comes on first) Temps stayed at perfect temperature, no rough idle, etc.

I have a lot of plans for the car, wheels, coilovers, tint, installing the Feed Skirts and Water injection kit that came with the car but weren't installed etc etc. Will be a fun project, but first I need to resolve the hot start problem. I cannot complain for the price of under $11,000 even if I need to do the $3,500 replacement of seals that I was quoted by my builder

And here is a picture of the FEED skirts and water injection kit along with the original owners manual, all the documentation/receipts from the first owner and all the documentation/receipts from the motor/single turbo build from the second owner.

You got a steal for $11k

Also, if you do end up needing a rebuild, I can do it for less than $3500, that's for sure

Some observations from the pics:

I'm wondering why the EGR is still installed on the car

Also, look into a turbo heat blanket for the turbine housing, it'll keep everything under the hood from being cooked.

I would route that coolant hose away from the turbine hsg, run it over by the air filter, more towards the front of the car.

Congrats!

Edit: Whose Porsche is that?

Thanks guys, I am totally stoked!

Rich, thanks for all the heads up! I'll let the guy who built the car do all my work as he knows a lot more than me. Also where can I find a heat blanket? Any certain one you suggest?

I need to get the car "smogged" and then registered tomorrow so no driving until then

P.S. The Porsche is mine too, just kidding. It's my Dad's. I think he's going to end up selling it soon. He wants to get another 914 to work on.

Congrats on the purchase. In the first pic I thought it was black, but realized that it's actually Montego Blue. Fix her up and let's go for a drive
