California smog ***** strike again
I was looking for how many years the rolling exemption was and found it, and found it was being attacked by a bill to get rid of it.
I wrote an e-mail to the governator and afterwards further researched that I was too late and it has been passed and changed to 35 year rolling emissions, or 1976 and older. I am just about to get a beautiful 79 RX-7 and it would've been only 13 months away from being exempt in California. So please feel my pain.

Here is the letter that I wrote to the governator:
My name is Ben Martin, and I am 23 years old and live in Stinson Beach in beautiful Marin County, Ca.
This e-mail is being sent as I am against the bill known as A.B. 2683, which would like to eliminate the 30 year rolling emissions exemption.
I am a huge car enthusiast. I appreciate and love all sorts of cars. Especially the classics. I think about cars at every spare moment I have to. They are my passion, my hobby and my love.
Unfortunately my classic is a 1979 RX-7 and has 13 months left to be exempt under the 30 year emissions exemption law. One of the first few months of the 1979-1995 run that my beloved RX-7 has had. It’s a beautiful sports car, and has all original paint, interior, engine, wheels, etc, etc. Original everything, including the archaic and problem ridden "thermal reactor" that was introduced before cats. This is not something you can just weld a catalytic convertor on to. It is literally a 100lb cast iron reactor bolted to the exhaust outlet of my motor. It works now, but is not going to work forever. And having a soon to be 30 year old car is something I was looking forward to. I keep my newer vehicles bone stock because of emissions and would love to personalize my classic with something other than this thermal reactor it is equipped with.
The people who wrote this bill could not be 1/3 of the car enthusiast that I am.
Don't force our beautiful classics off the road, or into bone stock only configuration. We car enthusiasts love them. We take care of them. We drive them to share them with everyone else on the road. California has so many beautiful classics still on the road being driven. Please don't ruin our fun. I get so excited and such a smile on my face when I see a beautiful, lovingly cared for classic car. I've never known so many beautiful cars on the road as in California and have fallen in love with this state for its many beauties.
Classic sports cars and muscle cars should be seen AND heard.

I am a young, ambitious and talented young man that has fallen in love with California as the 3rd state I have called my home. I don't want to live anywhere else now. Is it really possible that my letter could make any sort of difference in the government, let alone to governor Schwarzenegger? Show me, a young impressionable Californian and American what a letter to the right person can do. I love my new home state, my country and all of the cars I see on the road, and drive myself.

I hope this doesn't become a nationwide emission standard. I hate that California thinks that its the sole responsibility of California to govern the world's emissions.

**** LA, I live in the bay area, at Stinson Beach in Marin County, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. I live on the beach and the only way to suburbanite civilization is over my choice of 5 different 15 mile curvy mountain roads w/ world class breathtaking scenery.

Guess what, due to all the people that live here in Cali we have really shitty air. And we are violating FEDERAL Clean Air standards. One of the many methods of coming into compliance is to make it so that any new car sold in Cali meets more stringent rules governing emissions. 6 other states have voluntairly joined forces with CAli to fight the EPA.
I'd rather breath clean air than worry about your car. Grow up.

some people tried to pass some 35mpg standard for 2020, and the automakers of my state, have already bought enough loop holes in the bill to look similar to the bullet path of a darfur tent compound, a bad metaphor, but it suits their method, they really dont give a ****, but states like cali, with tons of people and money and **** emissions have turned the city into the urban battle field it is now, the people are truely strugglin. with the industry *** backwards, i wonder if itl get fixed.

Venice Beach is freak zone central, Cali is MUCH more than that twisted section of sand.
I don't drive a 7 and I don't drive a Pruis. But I do understand how bad the air quality is in this state due to the vast numbers of people. have you ever been to the Redlands east of LA? Perpetual SMOG 365 days a year.
The fact is that US automakers CAN make cars more fuel efficient AND pollute less, however, they don't WANT TO. It's just that simple. Cali will win, get over it. If Japanese automakers can make cars that are cleaner AND outsell US automakers than guess what, I don't care!

Nope, but every little bit helps. Esp when people drive in cars from other states. Even with out the law, a car may be smog exempt but is still required to have all OEM parts...meaning if it was sold with a catalytic converter, it better still have a functioning one on it.

if the car does NOT come with a catalytic converter, it doesn't need one.
what i'm saying is, this "1965" vehicle (for instance) has a 550CFM 2 barrel carburetor from the factory and the owner wants an upgrade. the owner can only (by CARB & BAR law) can only install a CARB approved carburetor for the engine.

My 7 is emissions exempt in a month. Woohoo! Of course, I've been running catless for quite some time, but still.

toyota cannot keep up with the demand, and still make a flawless product, eventually their going to take short cuts. their automobiles are now starting to show signs of auto maket fatigue.

that said, what is so good about toyota, their just as shady as the big 3 a few years ago, their cars are falling apart.
toyota cannot keep up with the demand, and still make a flawless product, eventually their going to take short cuts. their automobiles are now starting to show signs of auto maket fatigue.

the only reason toyota did not try to build its american headquarters in detriot, (belive me toyota wanted nothing more than to build a tower scaling way higher than the GM building)
unions want 30 some odd dollars an hour to build cars, 5 years ago they used to get it, and had been sence the big 3 exploded into the conglomorates they are today, and when you have many plants, and workers with cash they tend to eventually find a female and procreate, and move near their work.
