Waysho, they will definetely get you on not registering in California. That is a given. If they can prove that you have been living in the state, they could probably write you for all the modification tickets as well since you need to keep the car in compliance where ever you live.
i had to buy a cali ECU and cali exhaust. talk about alot of work after working 12 days...

Like I said I cleared my fixit by just having an officer sign it, and I'm pretty sure they wrote their badge number, but if having it stamped at the PD is the official way then I would do that to avoid any hassel. I don't recall there being any instructions on the ticket so its understandable that this confusion would arise.

"we do not charge to sign off tickets. No one does."
Well, I can confirm that the LA County Sheriff station in Walnut does. They even have a sign behind the counter holding a sign off price schedule. Been there once for a front license plate sign off, and experienced that unexpected courtesy first hand. Thats why I now just go to my local police (actually San Bernadino Sheriff) station.
Perhaps a thing unique to LA Sheriff? One less choice in trying to figure out which agency Fu works for.

If you get pulled over for speeding, how can you make the officer comfortable as possible and more lenient? Hands on the wheel? Keys on the Dash? Windows down? Interior lights on and stereo off? Smile?

never admit guilt, however, be honest. If you got caught doing 85 or more, just simply say, "I know I was going a bit over the limit and if you are going to write me a ticket, please put me down as going 75 or less". It never hurts to ask.

Hey Fu, can you answer this one too?
"I've wondered this for a long time.....what happens when you get pulled over on a highway by CHP, they tell you to pop the hood and give you a ticket to go to a ref station because of modified crap? I hear you can just go to court and pay a hefty fine like 5-600 bucks and get out of the ref ticket and not have to fix anything. My question is if that is true and you do pay it off, what happens let's say if you get pulled over again by CHP the next day? Are you exempt from getting a ref ticket by him because you just got one and paid it off?"
Thanks

I have no clue what the different fines are or how to take care of tickets like that. Once we write the ticket, it is out of our hands. Everything from there on out is with the judicial system.

Numer one suggestion I can give is be respectful, you do not actually have to have respect for the cop, but show respect to him like a man. Rolling down your windows, hands on the wheel, don't make any sudden moves etc... are all good too.

Tail lights don't need to be Red
To follow up on what I indicated on the first page of this thread, tail lights can be ANY color so long as the emitted light is red and you have at least two red reflectors mounted on either side of the rear of the car and are not lower than 15 inches nor higher than 60 inches.
Specifically, you can smoke S5 tails and be legal since each S5 tail also has a red reflector on it.
Pertinant parts of the relevant sections of the CA Vehicle Code:
Color of Lamps and Reflectors
25950. This section applies to the color of lamps and to any reflector exhibiting or reflecting perceptible light of 0.05 candela or more per foot-candle of incident illumination. Unless provided otherwise, the color of lamps and reflectors upon a vehicle shall be as follows:
(6) A reflector meeting the requirements of and installed in accordance with Section 24611 shall be red or white, or both.
(c) All lamps and reflectors visible from the front, sides, or rear of a vehicle, except headlamps, may have any unlighted color, provided the emitted light from all lamps or reflected light from all reflectors complies with the required color. Except for backup lamps, the entire effective projected luminous area of lamps visible from the rear or mounted on the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall be covered by an inner lens of the required color when the unlighted color differs from the required emitted light color. Taillamps, stoplamps, and turn signal lamps that are visible to the rear may be white when unlighted on vehicles manufactured before January 1, 1974.
Reflectors on Rear
24607. Every vehicle subject to registration under this code shall at all times be equipped with red reflectors* mounted on the rear as follows:
(a) Every vehicle shall be equipped with at least one reflector so maintained as to be plainly visible at night from all distances within 350 to 100 feet from the vehicle when directly in front of the lawful upper headlamp beams.
(b) Every vehicle, other than a motorcycle or a low-speed vehicle , manufactured and first registered on or after January 1, 1965, shall be equipped with at least two reflectors meeting the visibility requirements of subdivision (a). ..... If the vehicle is equipped with two reflectors, they shall be mounted as specified in subdivision (d).
(d) When more than one reflector is required, at least one shall be mounted at the left side and one at the right side, respectively, at the same level. Required reflectors shall be mounted not lower than 15 inches nor higher than 60 inches, except that a tow truck, in addition to being equipped with the required reflectors, may also be equipped with two reflectors which may be mounted not lower than 15 inches nor higher than the maximum allowable vehicle height and as far forward as the rearmost portion of the driver's seat in the rearmost position. Additional reflectors of a type meeting requirements established by the department may be mounted at any height.
* If your car doesn't have two separate red reflectors, then the taillights must reflect Red as Fumanchu indicated as they are in that case the required two red reflectors. In short, you can't smoke S4 tails unless you also separately install 2 red reflectors complying to this section.
Specifically, you can smoke S5 tails and be legal since each S5 tail also has a red reflector on it.
