Radar detectors
Good one for Fu, but I'll throw in my 2 cents in the mean time. I'm currently rolling with the same Valentine set up as yours.
Answer is, it's a personal thing with traffic cops. Some don't care, some take it personal and look for other things to write you up for, and some simply let it affect how they handle the specific reason for the traffic stop.
Case in point.
Late one evening I was driving through Malibu. I had a remote mounted (behind the grill) Escort detector at the time. It went off with a Laser signal, so first thing I did was hit my brakes then check my speed. I was pulled over for going 15 over.
After advising why he pulled me over he asked if I had a radar detector. Always careful not to admit to anything, I answered his question with my question of "Why do you ask?" He said as a personal policy he allows 15 over as a grace unless the driver has a radar detector in which case he only allows 10 over. So, if I had a detector I was getting a ticket and if I didn't he would let me go. So, of course I lied and said I didn't hoping he wouldn't figure out I had a remote mounted set up. He then asked why I slowed so abruptly. My answer, keeping my best poker face, I was trying to avoid hitting a black cat that crossed in front of me.
He dug all over looking for a detector like yours and of course didn't find one. Also didn't figure out my remote install. Had he simply turned on my ignition key, the remote display would have gone through typical test cycle and I would have been screwed. But he didn't, so he let me go.

"but no fault has been determined yet!"
Fault was determined when the cop gave you a ticket for running a Red Light.
"and the insurance company is required to get my story...."
You're right. An insurance company has a fiduciary responsibility to determine on their own independent investigation who was at fault. But the ticket and/or inspection of actual physical damage to either car will make that exercise very short whether you beat the ticket or not. Either way, it indeed puts the burden on you to prove otherwise. And other than you saying I didn't do it (with apologies, like so many currently in jail claim), what proof do you have?
Regardless, if the other guy didn't have insurance and you don't have collision coverage, you're not going to hear from an insurance company since there simply isn't a reason for one to call you. No insured for whom to prompt paying a claim.
Armed with the accident report, his/her only avenue is to go after you in court, probably small claims. But with no insurance, he/she may be stupid and staying silent so they don't have to face that situation with a judge. Whether they do on don't have insurance doesn't change who was at fault.
The good news is that they have to file a claim within a certain time, I believe one year. Check with any clerk at the Small Claims window of your nearby courthouse to be sure. Anyway, one day after that time expires and you don't get served throw a party as you got very VERY lucky.

AA - Yeah, I got very VERY lucky. Guess I should have thrown a party, huh.
TheAbsence - Not hardwired which is simply getting power to your detector via direct soldered connection rather than, say, cigarette lighter plug.
My detector at that time was remotely installed. That is, the actual detector was encased in a weather sealed box mounted behind my grill. Wiring ran from it through the firewall connecting to a "hardwired" power source and a remote display at and under my dash.

Tintlaws.com is technically right as to the front side windows, but from a practical standpoint still not an option. Per VC 26708 in part:
(d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:
(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.
(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.
(3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays.
(4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle, a certificate signed by the installing company certifying that the windows with the material installed meet the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the installing company and the material's manufacturer by full name and street address, or, if the material was installed by the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material's manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material installed according to manufacturer's instructions meets the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the material's manufacturer by full name and street address.
(5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or bubbles, or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall be removed or replaced.
Good luck getting any installer to certify that their install complies with this.
As to tint readers, never seen or heard of such a device being used. FU??

for a fix-it ticket, it says I can have a law enforcement officer sign it off. Can I get one of those cops from my school to sign it. I'm pretty sure they're from the sheriff department.
Or if I get it fixed at a local glass repair shop, are they authorized to sign it? Or do I have to go to a special place.

I've always gotten my fix it's signed off by my local police no matter who wrote the ticket. If they are actual sheriff deputies, then they should be able to sign it off.
Be aware that some agencies will charge a fee to sign it off. So call and ask first.

Any officer or sheriff deputy can sign it off. And out of the 20 or so fix-it-tickets I have had, not one agency ever charged me to sign it off. Not even sure if they are allowed to.

Sign off fees.
Wouldn't have brought it up if it hadn't happened to me. For instance, the sheriff station in City of Industry (Valley Blvd & Grand) charged me, as I recall, $10. From that point is when I started checking first.

I get pulled over and my car is stripped, I have a full roll cage, got a bucket seat, a 6 point race harness, and a custom dash board. But my motor and exhaust are stock plus the car is registered and passed smog. Whats the worst that can happen to me/my car?
#372
No it's not Turbo'd
If all the emissions stuff is there, and the seat belts aren't held in with toothpicks, and turn signals & headlights are functional, not much. I suppose he can search it to make certain that this is the case, but if you're legit you're legit... and probably late to wherever you're going....
The real question is why would you gut your car, and put a race car seat in it, and then keep it completely stock ?
