V8 swap.

I've heard that a mustang 302 is an easy swap into an 86 S4 N/A. Anyone know for a fact? Or even just a 289? What about the transmission mounts?

I'm doing that swap and it's not that bad if you are mechanically inclined. I have never worked on a Mazda before so finding where some of the components was a little tricky but once I got the service manual for the RX-7 it was pretty easy.

If you are going to do this swap, you can e-mail me any questions you have and I'll try to help you out. Grannys Speed Shop and hinson supercar make kits for these swaps and come with all the mounts and brackets you will need.

Here is my build post. I just started working on it again now that I have some free time

Yes I used the Granys kit, you could do it with the basic kit, I bought the deluxe kit because I thought I was going to keep my power steering and A/C. I changed my mind after rethinking how I was going to use the car. I took out the power steering and installed a manual steering rack and eliminated all the A/C equipment. I had one issue with the transmission cross member bracket but the guys at Grannys were quick to fix there mistake. When I went to bolt it in place I noticed they sent me the wrong bracket and they sent me a new one free of charge and I got to keep the first one.

I will be keeping my PS and AC. Do you foresee any problems I should look out for?

I know a manual steering rack fits in than one with power steering. And I mean lets be honest here. These little cars aren't hard to steer to begin with lol

No big problems, just take your time routing the power steering lines through the grannys engine cradle and expect a little fabrication and modifications to be made, if you want to use your stock hood, you'll need to shim the sub frame and trim a little out of the hood. I read the grannys install manual a few times to understand what I needed to do

I haven't done anything with the new hood yet, I just moved to a new place and haven't had time to play with it yet. I might just start over with another hood, I have two more the experiment with
