Heh. Kids... I have a question... why hasn't anybody put a 20B in a camaro? i think this would chap all the american-only guys *** cause an engine with a 1/4 of the displacment is just as fast or faster then theirs. Also what's the big deal with putting a engine other then rotary in the RX-7? i know a lot of guys have already pointed out that when somebody says "What's to love about the RX-7? the rotary!" they are forgetting that the RX-7 is a light, good handling, stylish, fairly cheap body to begin with...so the rotary is the only thing going for it eh? i think your true feelings is this...SOME of you just hate anything american and the idea of a v-8 with pushrods makes you furious. A LOT of you wish you wouldn't have put all that money into your single turbo rebuilt rotary cause you could have had better performance and it would last longer and all the other benifits of having a V-8. MOST of you would like to do it but you've said so much bs to your other rotary-buddies about your 1.3L kicking some v-8's *** that you would be a traitor to put one in your car. You realize that you can have a better performance, more streetible, more dependable, for less $ car.
Just my 02 cents.
Nick

We all come to this forum because we like second generation RX-7's (the whole car, not just the motor) but lets face it, these cars are getting old and don't hold resale value very well. For this reason they are becoming a great inexpensive platform for motor swaps. However, having done a V8 swap myself, I have talked a few people out of doing a V8 swap. Not because I don't believe in the concept, (my V8 RX-7 convertible is a ball to drive) but I don't feel comfortable referring people to Grannys Speed Shop for conversion parts.

Think about this:

I see other people do things with their cars that I wouldn't do myself, but if you went to a car show and every car there was the same car, and was also all the same color with the same mods, same interior, same wheels, etc. What fun would that be? "Variety is the spice of life".

Maybe thats why I only see people having a very hard time giving away those conversions
The same POS Chevy trans used by BMW Volvo Jaguar and others for the last 30 years ? Again new BMW's will come factory equiped with " POS " Chevy transmissions , why ? BMW engineers are stupid ?
A well set up Chevy auto trans is a joy to drive , great at the autocross races and every where else .

Why would i take my old used RX7 with a used GM engine to " GM mech " or a " mazda mech " ??? There are ten's of THOUSANDS of competent " mechs " in shops all over the planet and BTW my local GM dealers service shop has no problem working on any of my " mutants " . " No thank you sir , we don't want your money " yah right .

Very hard time giving away those conversions ???? People offer me more for it than it cost me to build and some offer to pay me to build one for them . This is very common , especially after they test drive one .

GTFO, genius. You have committed 3) bannable (should be, in my eyes) offenses all at once.

You started a new screenname, likely after already having another.
You bumped up a 5 year old thread that does not matter.
You're posting about v8 conversions in the rx-7 tech sections instead of the "other engine conversions" section.

so has anyone assembled an engine with the racingbeat aluminum side plates and weighed it?

seeing as mazda is still using cast iron in its components and seeing as the ls1 is all aluminum. I think it'd be more sensible to compare it to an LT1, cast block, al heads right?

When the 16x is out, there will be no reason to do V8 swaps anymore, it wieghs less than a 13b, more torque, better lubrication, and better fuel economy.

Honestly, if someone wants to, it's their own business. However, they must also realize that theyre swapping in an engine with over 4 times the displacement, and less volumetric efficiency, to replace the original engine, plenty of intelligent engine builders have built 4,5,6,and some even 700hp rotaries. Just too much of a learning experience for the people who think it's too hard to have to pull the engine out of the car for service.

EDIT: Holy thread resurrection batman, where the **** did this come from?

Sorry, I like my v8s and all but the rotary is much more fun and a lot less hassle when it comes to modifying it. Of course a v8 has its own potential and can be very reliable but so can a rotary and it can be a lot more efficient and gain much more hp from the right combination of turbo and light moving parts. A rotary is meant for turbo or possibly supercharging and will not die, a v8 with a turbo might. I do like blowers but they're way too heavy. I don't care but a car done right is capable of anything. If you have a 350 and want it in your car, make sure you set it low in the engine bay and have it done right. As far as the swap goes, the 350 is slightly bigger and heavier, the 13B and the 20B are far smaller and fit snuggly, a 350 may in essence but there may be a lot of steering modifications done.
