love the braaaap
Simply put, this is the wrong question to ask here. I suggest you go to the proper board to ask this. There is one specifically made for other engine conversions. I don't want to be mean or anything, I'm just looking out for your well being.

If you can honestly answer the question "Why do you want to put a V8 into an Rx7?", and your answer doesn't follow the lines of:
"'cause I dont' know anything about rotaries and I'm not willing to learn"
or
"cause my piston friends say rotary engines suck, but I haven't looked into it myself, just believed them."
Then you can get some respect on this forum. If your reasons fall into either of those, you're gonna have a lot of rotary enthusiasts blasting your *** about this.
Honestly *think* about why you want to do this, and if there's an honest-to-goodness reason that you wanna do it, power to you.
I personally don't know what's involved, and don't particularly like the idea of removing the unique powerplant from these cars which grow so much rarer by the year.
So why are you doing it?

i don't think you can even put an ls1 in to a 1st gen.. really tho whats the purpose of having a 1st gen if you don't like having a rotary inside it.. buy a camero or a pinto and put an ls1 in it.

If I could of found a nice pinto to do my swap on I would have, but a nice pinto will cost quite a bit more than a nice rx7, becaue even with the pintos being older they are normally in running condition if the body is decent.

Man if he wants to do it let him. What does it matter to you if he wants a v8 in his 7?
http://www.torquecentral.com and http://www.grannyspeedshop.com (could have 2 s's) are the best places to look.

No one is telling him what to do with his car, thats his decision to make. He's just not going to get and help or advice on how to do the swap from these beloved rx7 owners. So chill out

Tex, your answer does sorta put me at ease. "haven't had much luck" implies that you tried.
Just promise me that if the engine isn't already fucked-over too much that you'll give that rotary to someone who needs it!
Glad you still have the respect for other rotary cars... but try saying that "dot" thing to Directfreak! His car is awesome.

dare a isay it be WAY to heavy in the front and a waste of a good car if i saw some one in aus driving a rx7 with a 8 in it id kick em square in the nuts :d

The whole weight thing is BS, a v8 doesn't weigh that much more than a rotary. It isn't going to destroy weight distribution etc... You can easily offset the weight added (if any) by moving the battery to the back. He asked for advice, not opinions.

Exactly, the LT1 only weighs about 75 to 100 more pounds than a rotary. If all you Criticizing people raelly nknew anythink about motors besides rotarys you might know that and no i dont plan on selling my engine to someone without telling them whats wropng with it.
I do have a whole other engine in my garage in peices if any one needs parts.

I'd like to see one person say it's a bad swap that's actually driven a decent 302 powered FB. I Have mine set up for road racing and it's an awsome car. Extreamly well balanced. Futant weighed his car with aluminum heads and put out the same front/rear balance as a stock GSL-SE. So the next time you say, "The balances is screwed, it will suck" you're basically saying that Mazda screwed up the GSL-SE, and it can't handle either. In other words, more ignorant people talking about things they don't know.
Two things I see most on V8 threads:
1. Guys wanting to swap to a V8 with the attitude "Rotories are unreliable, too expensive, and I don't want to learn how to work on one." When they really have never tried, but are just assuming.
2. Guys telling you 100 reasons they "assume" the V8 is bad, even though they've never driven one, and 96% have never seen one in person.
If you ask me, both are morons.

The way I see it is this : a person that blows his rotary in his 7 is left with 4 choices ( I know, I was there )
1) Scrap the car ( usually a bad idea )
2) rebuild the engine (expensive enough, and VERY VERY hard to find reliable sources to do it ! ) You can try it yourself, but let's face it, usually either people don't have the time, or the guts to attempt it.
3) Find a beat up 7 with a *working* engine ... but ... well ... in most cases, a bad idea because you don't know how the engine was treated.
4) (I actually thought of this, somebody mentioned it as an option) - Buy a 350 ( VERY VERY easy to find, not too expensive) ... The only problem with the V8 swap is that you have to change EVERYTHING. ( rad, tranny, carb, intake, exhaust , etc etc etc ! )
In some cases, if the person has no rotary resources close by, the V8 swap can be a good idea. I , on the other hand, had rx-7 heaven close by ( I know, we all heard the bad stories bout them , etc etc ... ) Fact of the matter is, they're slow, a bitch to talk with, never give you news bout how the car's doing, BUT, did an EXCELLENT job on the rebuilt.
ANYHOO, just trying to clarify why somebody would think of putting a v8 in a 7 ... A v8 does give you significant power though hehehe ... ALTHOUGH FOR THE RECORD: I'm still a rotary guy , long live the Wankel !
