do a search noob.

there's way too many sht hitting the fan in this thread. but this is nothing new of course.

my side goes to the V8 FD. why?
- school
- reliability
- i like torque
- better AFRs/thermal efficiency which is no coincidence to good or at least decent than rotary MPG
- like the above said; track record of the rotary sucks. it's no surprise why only mazda keeps the rotary alive. kudos to mazda for this.

opinions and facts. rotary lovers can argue this and that protecting their rotaries, but so what? let them be. we need purists in this world anyways.

And remember not all of us have built V8 FDs. Many are V8 FCs and 1st gens, too. I built mine to be different (in '93, there were maybe a handful of V8 FCs worldwide). I also built it because I wanted a performance car on a tiny budget. I already HAD the N/A FC on hand that I had been autocrossing for a year, after owning a handful of other autocross rotary cars (R100, RX2, 2 RX3s and a couple first gen RX7s). My conversion cost me a couple grand (the 5.0 engine was a grand, the trans was a few hundred, and the mounts I fabbed were about $20. Then there was the exhaust and driveshaft). All in all, including original purchase price of the car, I had maybe $5k total into it (with $1500 being the autocross suspension and wheel/tire setup on it when rotary powered). Much smaller, lighter, better built, better handling, and more attractive than a cheap Corvette, Camaro, or Mustang.

Has nothing to do with hating on rotaries, but in building what I wanted to build from a dead RX7 N/A, and ending up with a traditional hybrid like the original Cobras, Sunbeam Tigers, etc.

Everybody that rode in it on the street and track, including some rotary fans, loved the car and were surprised to see how much fun the swap made the car.

The recent surge in V8 RX7 builds shows that the merits of the swap are becoming more obvious to fans of all gens of the RX7. The cars look great, run hard, and handle excellent. They have grunt coming out of corners and style in spades. And they aren't as common as Corvettes, Camaros, and Mustangs. For a lot of us, that is important. We simply like these cars, and have found that we also like the way they act with the V8 in them.

who the **** put a stick up your *** man, im stating an opinion and i have still yet to see ANY v8 get with 400+hp get better mileage than a rotary of the same, if you have some proof or something you want to show me before you start calling names and go starting **** thats fine, but just because my experiance and opinion is different than yours does not mean i am a noob.

I love how people that swap v8's into their cars are so touchy about stuff like this, it makes the thread get so much more interesting when someone states an opinion and gets called an idiot for thinking that...

Hint: it might be because you just resurrected a thread that's more 7 YEARS OLD to try to post your parts for sale; parts which don't have anything to do with the topic being discussed here.

On the upside... That was quite a trip to the wayback machine! And yes, I'm pretty sure no one really convinced the other side about this argument. Then again, we are in the "v8 powered" sub forum on rx7club, and that sure didn't exist back in 2007 either...
