You need to go to confession, and atone for your sin...

if you have to go with a first gen iron block chevy, stay away from a 305. And if you have to do an iron block try to do aluminum heads to keep some weight down

there is a way just find a s10 with a v6 and take that motor mount because s10s are easy to throw in a 350 all you need to do is turn the motor mount around and they bolt right in. but keep the rotary because piston motors belong in piston cars

Good, lol. I'd hate to see a 79 succumb to a V8 conversion, get a more common FB if you're gonna do that.

dude trust me the weight of that conversion and what you'll spend to do it right isnt worth it. take that 12a in it street port it with a holly carb and 75 hp shot of nos ,you'll have fun kill most street v8s and save yourself about a grand

A streetport 12a would embarrass a stock iron 305, those things are dogs.

Horsepower to weight ratio my friend. V8 iron block? Is like having a fat chick riding passenger on a scooter.

all you need to know can be found here.

FB swaps are not too common, but there are several completed swaps on the link above.

Wow, I'm amazed at how many people try to dissuade someone from doing a swap in the "other engines" section of the boards. Even some that provide help say not to do it, so much for an open mind.

Just find a good 350 and you won't regret it. Even if it is Iron block/head its still worth it unless you're planning on doing mostly autox. If it's just going to be on the street or drag strip you'll never notice the added weight. I have a 1980 rx7 with an iron headed 350 and it's great.

Just don't put too much faith in other people opinions, especially when they have no experience in what your trying to do.

Wish this was mine but I have an FC..... It had a 305. It lasted 12000 miles in the 7, was not rebuilt after it was pulled out of donor car with 165k miles. I NEEDED 15 psi boost to kill this stock CAST piston, cast crank, "305 OMGWTFBBQ worst engine ever". when i say needed, I ran 10psi for a week flogging the crap out of it all the time. About 900 mi.
The only two swaps i dislike are in SA's or CYM 3rd gens. The swaps are a lot of fun but are one of the things, if you need to ask if you need a kit.... you do. some one with good fab skills will not ask if they need it they will jump in ***** deep to do it.
