I think you are missing my point.

Are cops that strict as to check for that?

I agree with the consensus that the new engine must be same year or newer and retain original smog equipment in most states.

Yeah, I really think its a matter of where you are doing it. Some places dont even require smog.. The places that do have it, you can always find a place to smog it for you.

Some places cops are cracking down on "street racers." So if you have a honda civic with APC stickers all over it and a really huge wing and a rice exhaust, you are probly going to get a lot more attention under the hood than a mildly tuned Rx-7.

Dont mis-understand my point. I agree that you should make every attempt at smog legal (Cats, Carbon filters, Fuel system, etc.) But there may be a point where its not 100% smog legal, therefore you would want to take it to someone who would put it on the machine and notice your not spewing out 2000 HC, with 4% O2, and let you pass.

Yes, I see that you're from norcal...In sacramento if your car is lowered, has wheels, and or exhaust that is probable cause to be pulled over. I've ridden with buddies and they get pulled over all the time. They only have mild mods like catback and such, but even then police will say it's too loud and send them to the ref. Note they weren't driving like asses or anything either. In Sacramento (most my friends live there and there's much more to do there and where I live) police are strict and will want carb stickers on intakes, carb plates on headers or anything before that cat. I've found my answer to the BAR and REF ideas for an Ls1. It can be done and I intend on mimicing that particular individuals swap. (I don't care about being original...)
