8.2L swap attempt, thoughts?

i am swapping a caddilac 500CID into my FB
ive seen a 460 in a fb before, so it will fit
and since my roomate is a welder and machineist, there should be no prob

btw the engine and tranny will be swapped, the tranny is a th400 IIRC

the engine will remain stock for a little bit, till i get any kinks worked out

Hey 54, I'm all about keeping rotary be rotary, but go
with your gut feeling. Is this really what you want to do?
Then go for it. I'm sure a handful of 'stangs will get a
big surprise at the light.

Better than you can imagine. The 425/472/500 is barely larger or heavier than a small-block chev. Nice motors. My roommate has two.

Why would you say that? To quote an article on GM.com: Cadillac’s racing history dates back to 1909 when Howard Covey won the first race held in the United States National Championship series in Portland, Ore.

Cadiallac's have a strong following and there are plenty of performance parts available. Not to mention the fact that when you start with that much torque in a car half the weight of the one it came out of, you're bound to turn a few heads when it's stock.

Look at any PAW book and you're sure to find performance parts for it.

If it doesn't pan out and your really set on it look for a junk yard with older cars, some may let one go for as little as $300.00 or so...

measureed to caddy engine and rx7 today
it would be an extreme royal pain in the *** for the exuast mani's/heades to clear both the strut towers and steering column

so instead i decided to put a free 2.3 i got in it, rebuid/stroke to 2.5 and boost it

the head has a small crack, i assume letting a maching shop weld it up and grind it smooth will be just fine (iron head)

wouldnt a big block require all custom?

wouldnt a big block mean all custom? i know the block is bigger than a 350 and there are no kits on the market for a big block. But i like the idea of an 850 hp crate motor in a 2900 lb car. That might be nose heavy though....
