5.0 Powered FB?

I was thinking since I aleady have an FB with a 13b in it how nice it would be to drop a 5.0 engine out of the old 5.0 mustangs in it would be. Has anybody ever done this and has pics? How much fabricating needs to be done? What is the usaull price for this conversion? Please, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Granny's speed shop; http://www.engineswaps.com/

They make 5.0 conversion kits for the FB's.

Many folks have done the swap, you might want to spend some time searching at; http://www.torquecentral.com . There is a ton of great information over there.

From the research that I have done, there does not seem to be too much fabrication work when using the Granny's kit. The exhaust system seem to be the largest part of the fabrication needed.

The cost of the granny's kit is inexpensive, but could increase depending on what additions to the kit that you would like to use, instead of fabricating your own parts. The cost of my personal conversion will be expensive because I will be using a reputable shop in my area to build my emissions legal EFI 5.0 FB.

Edit: Here are some pics of Brismo's 5.0 FB http://www.putfile.com/brismo7 scroll torward the bottom.

I am in the process of doing this myself. Click the link in my sig and you will see what I have done so far. Not much help yet, but I am not expecting a lot of fabrication.

We have an 82 7 and we just aquired an 87 Lincoln Town car with the 5.0 EFI engine. From my experience the hardest part is getting a hold of a good engine/tranny combo that someone doesn't want a fortune for.

Luckily this car we found a guy just wanted it gone so we got it for $50.

Hope to get it done here soon.

Thanks guys. Hopefully sooner or later I will be able to get this swap done. Depends on my money status.

yeah you can snag up 5.0's for fairly cheap... you'd want the 87-92 versions out the mustangs as they got forged pistons... so thats a bit of a bonus..
or else the rare 93 cobra.. they are rated at 235hp but make more like 300 they say.. but i doubt it.. more like 260

problem is they only handle around 450-500hp on average.. the block that is. the block is weak.. so if you want more than that, you want to get a aftermarket block

86 mustang had forged flat tops (engine I am using with 89 mass air fuel injection), later models had hypereutectic with valve reliefs.

You are right about the valve reliefs, but I am pretty sure that some later 5.0s (like your 89) came with TRW forged pistons. I am not 100% sure of the years, but I know some of them did have forged pistons from the factory.

I guess it isn't so much the engine conversion but the rearend swap. I don't know which one I should go with.

If you have any decent amount of power and torque, one pass with a set of drag radials will be enough to snap a halfshaft or kill the rear end.

Maybe, I have a 86, and it has forged flat tops (no reliefs). Maybe I heard wrong. I know the 87-93 have valve reliefs.

FB doesn't have halfshafts. It is a live axle. You know doritodorito or jimlab by chance?
