Will you be pushing these units?

I've yet to get the car tuned since install. Running the base map on the PFC on the 0.9/0.8 boost settings currently. The car runs well, but I don't want to push anything too hard until it gets tuned. I will keep you all updated.

Any updates on these twins yet? Would love to see more, very little tangible data on these twins right now

Okay, sorry for the lack of updates. This is not the type of update that I would like to make, but it is an update none-the-less. So long story short: I blew up the primary turbo. I am not exactly sure what happened, but I was driving and all of a sudden I heard a loud pop with smoke rolling out of the exhaust and engine bay. The car could not build boost and as I cruised to a safe place on the road the car made a grinding noise. I got the car hauled back home and then got under the car to check things out. Underneath I saw oil leaking from the front of the turbo manifold and the primary compressor housing. Oil was leaking from the muffler. It was everywhere. I took the turbo off the car and took the turbo apart. I discovered that the exhaust wheel had a broken fin and the oil seals were leaking. The secondary turbo was fine. I ended up splitting up the stock turbo and put the stock primary turbo half with the Bathurst secondary half. I installed this half stock half Bathurst and the car ran fine without any issues or smoking.

So, after all this, I had the car tuned. It was tuned rather conservatively, with boost around 12psi, on pump 93 octane, and made around 330 to the wheels. I do not have the dyno sheet on hand. During tuning we did run into some problems with the idle though. Simply put, the car would not idle and would stall out. Tip in and tip out was very rough, and when coming to a stop the car would stall. I will say that when the car was moving and when driving at WOT, the car felt great. But the idle sucked. It was thought that the IAC valve was to blame, but after trouble shooting the IAC (which worked fine before the tune, and was functioning properly), and becoming frustrated, I reset the Power FC, and voila, the car idled great, and tip in and tip out were smooth.

So now I have this half stock half Bathurst turbo running a base Power FC tune. It feels great, and pulls hard all the way to red line, with a pretty smooth transition point.

I am currently waiting for Race Only garage in Australia to provide a solution to fix the primary turbo.

Ah man sorry to hear that. That pic is very odd with the blade missing. I will be curious to see what the "experts" say the cause was. Are you sure the idle issue just isn't afr related?

this is my current situation with my 3kai secondary. If it is what I think it could be I will be very pissed with the installer. I see I need a new coolant line. Everything was suppose to be changed with new oem. Oh well, what can you do? I am thinking it is one of the main gaskets .. manifold to block or manifold to turbo. Probably to turbo?

So that was a new 3kai turbo?

Mine are the 3kai with about 10k. I do not think it is the turbo itself, I think it is a gasket. Hopefully as that would be a relief, but aggravating none the less.

I would say that the oil return line gasket is bad, based on that picture. The gasket to from block to manifold and manifold to turbo doesn't have any oil passages, so that's unlikely to be it. Also, the collection of oil on the underside of the turbo might indicate that one of the oil seals is leaking, but I would say that is less likely given that the turbos are only have 10k miles. Oil (and coolant) only goes through the CHRA, so anything attached to that (oil feed/return, compressor housing, etc) could have oil on it. Replacing that gasket would tell the tale!

My old set of turbos looked similar. The underside of the secondary compressor housing was stained with oil and occasionally I would notice a drop of oil just hanging there. The car still ran, and built boost, but given that the turbos had 70k miles and were 30 years old, I would say it was likely a bad oil seal for mine.

I will definitely check out the gaskets on the pil and coolant.. There is a major exhaust leak though at least it sounds like an exhaust leak. There isn't anyway an oil gasket issue would sound like an exhaust leak wouldnit? May be a stupid question... I may have more going on than I think.

An oil leak shouldn't make a noise. What are you hearing exactly?

What kind of symptoms are you seeing/hearing/concerned about that makes you think there is an issue?

A huge ticking noise from manifold area and I put a stethoscope up in there and basically the noise gets louder up where it is circled in the pic. It is definitely not getting any better. That is why I think there could be 2 issues maybe going on?

Have a shop do an exhaust leak test. There are several ways to do it at home with basic equipment as well.

I for one am not pushing numbers, but 360-380 "reliable " sounds pretty badass to me.

Ohhh... yeah the Doctor with his huge claims lol
