Where to buy EBC brake pads

Anyone know were I can get a good deal on some EBC brake pads? And maybe some slotted rotors.

I bought 3rd gen roters, they were $95 for fronts and $104 for rears.

Rotors

got my rotors off of e bay $130.00 for the front slotted and cross drilled . they are Brembo. only the front though. saw them yesterday on e bay.

Which ones are you looking for? Do you have FD or C? Do you want front and rear? reply back to autornd@hotmail.com. I have a set of fronts left and can get the rears within two days. EBC Red Stuff pads...I'd say they're falsely marketed as track-only pads. I melted a brand new, out of the box set of Red Stuff front pads in four, 20-minute full-on track sessions yesterday (Saturday, March 23, 2002) at Putnam Park Road Course. And this was with my stock US-spec FD '93 R1 brakes (my J-Spec '99 FD Type RS brakes were not ready in time for yesterday's track event).

When I finally collapsed the caliper pistons to remove, what were once Red Stuff pads--what was left were a burned up set of brake backing plates with the caliper piston impressions left on the plates.

EBC Red Stuff pad track performance was similar to Performance Friction Z-rated pads (low friction coefficient, which means more pedal effort). Hawk HP Plusses were much better track pads at a lower price, and would last at least a weekend event!

The EBC Red Stuff pads can't touch the Hawk Blacks (Hawk's medium duty road race) for track performance, and don't come close to the HP Plusses (Hawk's road/track pads).

In short I do NOT recommend EBC Red Stuff pads for serious track enthusiasts (Max Cooper, are you reading?). They'll probably be ok for novices and interemediate skilled track drivers, or for advanced drivers who don't intend to drive at 9/10ths during every session.

RedStuff brake pads

Manny, after seeing your brakes at Putnam Park I did a little digging.

It seems all the EBC promo stuff indicate that these pads are perfect for track use. However I did see where people with other cars (a BMW, a Miata, and a Mitsubishi FTO) experienced the same problems with short pad life...

One review on the Miata site was positive, but he said he had driven the car 400 miles before he tracked it, thus giving the pad a "light" break in. The same site had two negative reviews.

Maybe part of the problem is that EBC is relatively new to the US market. This is from Miata.net:

"The Redstuff compound is formulated for cars that weigh in at ~1500 lbs or less. My Sentra and most Miatas I know of are a bit heavier than that and probably need to step up to their Yellowstuff or Bluestuff compound, which are for heavier cars. EBC has been very cooperative and we are working together to find the right material for US cars for track and road race purposes. It is their intention to re-word their website and catalog soon to help everyone choose the correct pads for their application."

Sounds like EBC is aware of the problem, and that the RedStuff is not the correct application. If they are really designed for cars at 1500lbs, a FD with driver would be twice that much! At any rate, I do know they make outstanding pads for other applications. They need to get this RedStuff thing worked out so that we can have another viable option for track pads! Until then I'm sticking with my Hawk Blues.

Thanks for the warning Manny. I have some Pagid RS4-2-1 pads in front now that are supposed to work for both street and track (according to a brake system nut that has done and seen brake dyno tests for many compounds). They are quiet and seem to be bedding in nicely. I've also got the Ferodo DS3000 pads that were suprisingly streetable (only squealed a little, incredible friction even when cold, did not appear to be eating the rotors) and should be fantastic on the track if the Pagids don't work as expected.

I will assume that you bedded the Reds in properly. I killed a set of Hawk HT-8 pads (and my rotors) in one day because I didn't bed them in properly (the red mist took over and I just started hot lapping). Two other cars that were running the same pads but bedded them properly had their rotors survive, but all of our pads were severely worn by the end of the day. One thing that may prevent proper bedding is if you ran a different kind of pad on those rotors before. This has always been kind of a confusing topic for me, but I learned recently that you can normally run different pads from the same family (which equates to brand, more or less) on the same rotors and have it work okay, but if you switch between two different kinds (e.g. Hawk and EBC), you should use different rotors, get them turned, or at least take a little 600 grit sandpaper to them. Pads lay down a transfer layer onto the rotor surface, so you either need a compatible transfer layer or a fresh rotor surface for them to work properly. Some transfer layers can be removed and replaced by the new pads eventually, but others lay down a transfer layer that won't go away with anything short of a lathe (PFC pads have a stubborn transfer layer, for instance).

However, it sounds like there are some other issues with those pads for this application anyway.

Now I just need some high friction rear pads, and I'll probably end up getting RS brakes in the rear, too, to try to balance things out a bit.

I thought the reds were for heavy cars? I think thats what the Spring Tirerack mag says. I'll check it out.

Yeah, I had Hawk HP Plus, and switched to EBC Red Stuff for track use. I dunno. I've done that before...Hawk HP Plus, to Porterfield R4, then back to Hawk HP Plus. No deliterious effects...but perhaps you might have a point with the EBCs.

I too read that the EBC Red Stuff was meant for heavy cars, or for track-use by light cars (<3000 lbs)...
