what to do to make the RX ride a little softer?

I have 17 X 8 CObra wheels on 225/45/17 rubber at at times it is a little harsh.

what do I need to do to make it softer? dont need a race car. shocks are all most likely shot. 94 K on them probably stock...

There are several struts out there that allow dampening adjustability. I prefer the Tokicos but a lot of people like the Koni.

Go back to stock wheels, you'll get another 1/2" of tire sidewall. Personally, I don't understand why anyone would want to soften up the stock ride. Is your car an R-model?

my car is a 90 GXL. I personally like the Cobras on there (95 model) and I get good comments everywhere I go.

But I think the tires are to low profile (Falkens) and the shocks are shot.

If I change the shocks that will help?

what should the tire pressure be for normal everyday driving?

No offense, but if you think a 90 GXL rides hard, perhaps you aren't made for a sports car...

Anyway, your tires are the right profile for the rim diameter. If you want a higher profile, you'll need to go to a smaller diameter wheel. If your shocks are original, you most likely definitely need new shocks. Additionally, most of your rubber bushings are probably mostly gone by this point as well.

I don't know what FC pressures should be, the plate on the inside of the drivers door (or in the owner's manual) should tell you. As a good guess, I would say 32/32 psi.

I have had 4 RX7's and this one seems to ride the harshest. I had a 79, 85, 88, and this 90.

I know it is a sports car but my wifes Focus drives like a caddy compared to this.

I was just asking for any help to see if I could improve it.

just because its a sports car doesnt mean that the normal cracks and bumps in the pavement should make it feel like my wheels are made of concrete.

I dont expect it too ride like a caddy but I have had a few of these cars that rode better.

there is most likely room for improvement.

just need to knwo what.

thanks for all replies

its not a cadillac, even with performance struts/springs its gonna be a harsh ride, but bite in the corners!

what tire pressures are you running? you should run 30 front 28 rear set COLD... (before you drive the car.)

w 94,000 miles, your shocks may be just fine. i have yet to find a worn out OEM shock on my shock dyno... although i cede that they do eventually wear out.

good luck,
