Tire Sizes on a Turbo II

I just got done converting my n/a 4 lug brakes to 5 lug. I am in search of tires. Does anyone know the largest tire size that will fit on a Turbo II.? Stock Rims? I tried a pair of Hoosiers but they were rubbing the strut. The size was 225/50/16.

This is a question that comes up quite often.

The simple answer is: there is no right answer.

Some combinations of tire size / brand / what type of shocks and springs / rim will give different results.

On my 87 TII with stock 89 TII rims and Eibach prokit springs and Tokico 5 ways, I can run a 225/50 16 Toyo RA-01 tire if I use a 3 mm spacer.

Without the spacer, the tire sidewall still clears, but it's literally by a hair. Too close for my liking.

On my car I could probably gain another few millimeters of clearance by using a grinder to shave a little off the lower spring perch, but with the spacers I don't need to do that.

Just have to try some out to see what fits YOUR car I'm afraid.

So, you're getting ready for next Sunday? Hopefully by then I'll be ready too. Oh yeah, your question. I'd stick with 205/55 if I didn't already have 225/50's on my car already. But my rims are 8" wide.

'89 TII-I'm running Nitto's 215/55 front & 245/50 rear. They are almost the exact same outside diameter-no problems with the ABS, or suspension clearance.

I had a feeling there was no right answer since every car would be different with the suspension set up. I put on a set of ST springs and KYB AGX's. The choice of rims are aftermarket 16x7 or Turbo 2 rims-16x7. Both having ther same offset.

JRacer,Yes I was trying to get ready for Sundays Auto X. I think you will have the same problem once you do your suspension work. Do you have spacers on your rims? The tires rub on the the bottom of the spring perch. Youd think 205-55=215-50=225-45. But not 225-50.

Thanks for the input. Anyone else?

225/50R16 is a smidgen taller, but not too much. I like to have enough sidewall just in case of bad roads. My wheels have plenty of offset. In fact the front is a little too much. It sticks out like a quarter of an inch or so. This is fine with me because when I get around to getting a camber kit this will be taken care of. The way my tires wear from my "normal" everyday driving, three degrees or so of camber will let my tires wear correctly. My wheels are Nissan Skyline R32 GTR rims. I picked them up when I was on vacation in Okinawa last October. They were cheap as he!! and in perfect condition. I just had to get them. As far as I can tell, I'm probably the only one with them in the states. I've wanted a set ever since I got my 7. They don't fit much else and they look good on my car.

Great! That should be fine, yes I was born & raised in Oki., I brought 3 sets of rims thru to the states and havent seen any others either.
Id like to see your rims I could probably get one of my friends there to get some parts & rims. Now what is cheap?? I bought a nice set of 17" RPOs from Rishie, that were considered cheap. See you on Sunday dont know what Ill run yet. RLee

Rokuman-en, so that was just under $500 at the time. Shipping was cheap. I got my buddy to send them 4th class through the post office on base. Even though they were used, they were in near perfect shape. You'll see them Sunday. :p

205-55-16 thats the size I went with all the way round so I can rotate. Came down to the discontinued RE 71 Poetenzas and the Kumho 712. went with the Kumhos.

I've got the AVS Intermediate on the back wheels. Nice tire for the money. Good when warmed up. Too bad at a place like Bremerton it's hard to warn up your tires. Cold, wet tracks on cloudy/rainy days are like that. Of course I am just assuming that it will rain there.

We ran the AVS Intermediates on the the GSLSE last year, dang they wear out fast. Just 1 season and they are more than 50% worn. Luck to get 10,000 miles out of them. I thought they gripped well though.

im running 225/50/16 front 245/45/16 back.
I have groundcontrol coil overs and using FD wheels 16x8 +50 offset
so I have to run a 25mil spacer to clear in front.

Im going to be selling these wheels and spacers once my wheels from Japan come
then I will be running
235/45/17
255/40/17
