TX Tein Mon Flex questions - FD RX7

Hello

Has anyone tried the Tein Mono Flex? Any reviews?

What are the stock spring rates? Is it actually 14kg front 12kg rear?

What is the diameter of the spring on the mono flex? Is it 2 1/4". If not can it be switched to 2 1/4"?? Need the clearance for 10.5 fronts.

Im planning on adding EDFC if I end up buying this kit. Any opinons on this.

I just bought these and should be installing them in the next few weeks and I will let you know how they feel.

Let us know... I've been eyeballing these, but there's virtually no FD-specific reviews. NSX guys seem to love 'em.

Had them for 4k miles so far. They are great. I was worried they'd be too stiff, but they have been tamer/more comfy than the 8/6 setup on my "daily" WRX not that you can really compare two cars spring rates without considering other factors.

On the track they are very responsive. No problems keeping the wheels on the road.

The car came with Tokico Illuminas and swift springs which I promptly removed so I have no real comparison.

HPDE, and mostly drift.

The springs ought to be roughly a metric equivalent of 2.5 or 2.25". Rates are 14/12, per Tein's website

Well I got the Mono Flexs on the car and I love them. They are not to stiff and they are a good ride when you have the damping on the soft side. Now on the stiff side they are very stiff but not to bad. Stiff they handle better than the previous Teins I had on there but I also changed my tires to ReO1r's when I changed my coilovers. I know the tires had a little to do with the handling. So far I am very happy with the coilovers and I would recommend them.

May I ask:

1. What were the previous Tein model you had on? Spring rates?

2. Did you go with the standard 14/12 rates on the Monos?

The JDM monos are 10k/10k, but you can order them without springs and put in 10k front and 8k in the rear no problem. That's what I'll be doing, and using swift springs.

BTW you can't order US Spec coils without springs. PTR if you need the part # for the Jspec non spring coils shoot me a PM. I believe Rishie can get em or we can order directly through TEIN. Doesn't matter...

That's weird, because the Tein USA site states 14/12 for the monos. The way I read them, they are closer to the Super Race than the regular Flex. Essentially a super race with single adjustability, no remote resovoir, and a lighter rear spring.

They are 14/12 here in the states, but the JDM spec monos are 10/10. Yeah, the new monos have that new msv stuff.

I may end up getting a set of these. I am wanting a track type coilover with 14/12 spring rates. Anyone had these on the track yet with big brakes and R Compound tires or slicks?

Softer almost always = better ride.

Read this:

Especially the first post which summarizes everything.

I might have Tein dop them down to 12/10, but I'm not convinced that mere spring rate is always the culprit for poor ride—shock valving is just as important, and the recon i've gotten from Fritz over the years from running tons of different types is that you can get away with a MUCH stiffer rate on a coilover that's valved for the rate than you can, say, by slapping those rates onto a stock-replacement shock or cheap coilover.

yeah I was thinking about running 12/10 also. My buddy has aragostas in 12/10 with delrin bushings and his car feels great on the street. If you go 12/10 you don't have to special order the monos that don't have any springs.

I am surprised how nice the ride is with the 14/12 setup.
