Why are you asking me? Didn't you side against me along with the driftards in the other wheel fitment threads? Why don't you ask the "experts"?

If you really want my opinion (based on performance), you could run a 235/45 17 up front with rolled fenders. You could run a 255/40 or a 265/40 17 at the rear. A 275/40 17 would probably fit with rolled fenders but it's really too big for a 9" rim. Don't know for sure of course, because I would not run or recommend offsets that low.

My disclaimer: I'm basing all this off of JimLab's FD Wheel/Tire Sizing guide, so I'm not claiming to be an expert on this... But according the the chart:

If you run a 17x8 +37 up front with a 225/45 the tire will have 0.45" of clearance to the fender.
Now 225mm = 8.858" and 235mm = 9.251", a difference of 0.393" so in theory a 235/40 *should* fit

If you run a 17x9 +37 in the rear with 255/35 the tire will have 0.45" of clearance to the fender.
Now 255mm = 10.039" and 275mm = 10.826", a difference of 0.787" so that doesn't look like it would fit... but 265mm = 10.433" so thats a difference of only 0.394" so technically that *should* fit as a 265/35

If you want to run a 275 you'll definitely have to roll and maybe pull, but running a 235/40 and 265/35 looks to be your best option

I'm not saying the 275s will fit, but I think you missed on the calculation. The tire may be .787" wider, but only 1/2 of that is on the fender side of the wheel's centerline.

You're right, I wasn't even thinking about that when I posted. I guess both of my calculations are a bit off then. I would still stick with the 235/40 and the 265/35 though just so you don't have to destroy your fenders... I've got a friend making well over 400hp on 265's just fine.

I personally wouldn't try 275s with any offset less than 40

I run (on the street) 17x8 +35 (235/40-17) front and 17x9 +34 (265/40-17) rear. This is how it looks like in the front:

Very high setting :P

Fully compressed (almost)

Still very/almost fully compressed.

There are even more space at the rear so i dident bother taking more pictures. I hope this helps.

those rims on zebbs car look like mazdaspeeds, plus i think those are the offsets on my mazdaspeed of the same size and they fit good.

The car is not on the ground, thats why it looks high + the pictures are taken from below. I can take more pics later today if you want me to... I can test different offsets using spacers. So if you guys want to know if some kind of strange offset will work or not, now is the time to ask. I can only test with the Mazdaspeed and the OEM wheels/tires.

I will be running 17x9 (+27,3) on the track with 235/610(~36) -17" slicks front and rear this summer. Thats the setup they use in STCC (swedish touring car championship) and i got them from one of the teams. The offset is a little extreme but i dont need to roll my fenders or anything.

Ok, i was wrong, the rear is pretty tight, perfect i would say. You could easily fit 285/35 with rolled fenders.

unloading the spring

Lifting the wheel...

Depending on suspension stiffness you might never compress the dampers this much...

Front

Front again

I used to have the Mazdaspeed wheels like Zebb.
235-40-17 in front ruined my front fenders (bent and paint chipped)
275-40-17 needed about 1/8 inch shaved off my rear fenders to fit.
Eibach lowering springs, stock struts.
