Exclamation Rear suspension squeaking sounds (searched)

Hello all, I have search for what I'm about to ask and cannot seem to find the answer I was looking for. I have Koni adjustable shocks installed on my 7 and recently I have been hearing squeaking sounds from the rear suspension area whenever I hit a small bump or when I get in and out of the car. It isn't loud, it's just very annoying as it sounds like something you would hear from an old van with rusted suspension problems. It also sounds like an old dorm mattress squeaking when you with the ladies. What do you guys reckon?

When you installed the shocks, did you reuse the thin, white, slippery, plastic part between the upper shock mount and the body? That would cause a squeak.

I do not recall if I had or not, however assuming I had would this cause an issue in the long run or is this something that is common and is prone to occur?

OEM bushings were installed few months back and it wasn't making sounds like this before until recently. It seems like it is getting worse by the day when I drive it. Now it makes sounds from entering and exiting the car as well. And no its not b/c I'm a fat bastard lol. Any other inputs? The box spring sound is driving me crazy, makes me feel like I'm driving a carriage from the 1800s @_@;

RB bars here. urathane (sp?) bushings. . .probably just need some prothane (I think that's the brand) grease, but it's a pain to do since they only squeak when cold!

habu2 - took me a minute to figure out your comment. . .

hmmm there would be no way for me to find out if its purely b/c of the cold weather... I don't drive my car in the rain or snow so I'm 100% sure it's not b/c of rust. I'm surprised to see that many other FD owners do not have this squeaking problem. It didn't used to make this sound before when the weather was warmer but I don't recall this sound occurring on my other 7 few years back in cold weather... Anyone else have more input on this? It's definitely coming from the driver rear side suspension. I can produce the sound when I apply hard pressure towards the rear of the car. :\

my squeek was not the roll bars, it was something in the trunk lol.. however i would just jack it up and see if anything is loose.. my FD makes lots of noise but i have a derlin bushing kit too..

its probably 1 of a few things.. a control arm bushing, a bearing, that upper shock seal someone else said or the shock itself..

if u dont see any visible damage to the bushings and u have a good bearing just switch the 2 shocks/springs around and see if the noise moves to the other side..

I been doing some search online about Koni adjustable struts being shot after making squeaking sounds... I'm hoping this isn't the case as it hasn't even been abused and its already breaking down! I'm going to have to bring it to the shop to see what's up with these struts... thanks for the input I'm hoping for the best as times are rough these days...

Doubtful it would be the shocks. The shop probably did not reinstall those white slippery gasket things on top of the upper shock mounts. Search on a post from damian for more info and pics.

just take it apart,, whats the sense of lookin for pictures.. it will take less then 30 mins to take the shock out.. your wasting time sitting here on the forums when you could be takin it apart.. if it is the shock gasket i would replace it with a paper gaskets from your local part store.. cut it to your size.. simple.. nobody here can really say what it is, the best thing to do is take it apart

I appreciate the input but I simply do not have the time to take it apart myself and my garage prohibits any work on vehicles as well. I also do not have the proper tools to do this work myself as all my tools for the 7 burned away with my house going under fire beginning of last year. If I had the time believe me I would of been under my car already trouble shooting. I'm asking the forum gurus in case it is an easy fix and also to show that I know what I'm talking about when I speak to my mechanic.

I'm planning on getting an alignment done soon and will ask the shop to diagnose this sound problem. As for the Koni's they got life time warranty on them so I'm not too worried yet.

wd40? I was planning on using some old fashioned lube from Johnson and Johnsons xD

It's likely either the sway bar bushings, or can even be a loose hatch... the squeek coming from it rubbing on the rubber pads.

I got the results back after some close visuals under the car, the suspension is fine. The sound was coming from the upper main control arm joint, its the joint that's shaped like a wishbone which connects directly to my Koni adjustable struts. The bushing is worn that it is turning in its place a little at a time making the squeaking sound when there is a bump. I called up Ray and ordered the part for $57 shipped.

This is going to be one painful job to do as it will take a while to push out that old bushing from the control arm... It should of been replaced while the other bushings were being replaced last year.

To replace the entire main control arm from Ray would be $471 per a side without shipping, so I figured why not save some money by getting the bushing alone :\

If this happens to you guys now you know where the squeaking is coming from. I'm planning on installing this next weekend when the part comes in, will let you know the results.

Here is the update, I got the suspension sound fixed.

It comes out that the wishbone control arm, middle bushing was squeaking from age. Both sides were replaced and while we were at it I found out that 1 of the pillowball bushings wasn't filled with grease prior to being installed so it was also making sounds. Took about 3 hours to pull out and install. My car doesn't make the annoying sounds anymore Thanks to all who chimed in to help out.

try tightening the shock nut and applying some "red & tacky" (bearing grease) above and below the bump stop on the shaft (huh-huh).
