Questions on Volk wheels

1994 Mazda RX7 (Feed front fenders +20mm/Burnout rear fenders +20mm)

1) General question: If I powder coat wheels, will it add a significant amount of weight to them? (enough to matter)

2) Anyone know where to get weight information on Volk wheels (specifically: TE37 and RE30 in 18x10.5)?

3) Going with a manual rack: How "tuff" is steering 10.5 wide wheels (285 tires)?

4) What offsets can I go with (18x10.5 f/r) with the fenders above? I see they offer a +22 (will this work)?

Thanks in advance,
Luigi

ghetto bathroom scale weight w/o centercaps or tire valve:
18x9.5 +15: ~17.0 +/- 0.5 lb
18x10.5 +18: ~19.0 +/- 0.5 lb

3. You can search for posts from gnrx7 (something like that). I would imagine that low speed stuff would be pretty tough.

4. You have a very narrow offset range to work with when running wheels that wide up front... you will want to be somewhere in the +35 to +40 range. Lower will still be hitting fender and higher may start having suspension/fender well clearance. Assuming you have aftermarket coilovers.

Tein HA and the offsets are still to low with the Feed fenders?

Edit: And staying with 18x9.5 f/r combo. And may not install the Burnout rear fender flares (it would seem like a waste if I am not going wider than 9.5).

Will these offsets work:
F: 18x9.5 +35 Feed front fenders
R: 18x9.5 +42 Stock

A quick search resulted in this, will this apply to me:

I would imagine that you really want a lower offset in the rear than what you will be running in the front (or at least the same offset front and rear). The higher the offset number the further into the car the tire will be. So with that fitment above, your front tires will be "out" further than your rear tires. You'll look like a FWD drag car.

Dammit, you are right. Based on the link above, can you suggest a better offset?

Edit: Couldn't I do +42 all around, since I have the Feed front fenders?

Yes, you could do the +42 around without a problem. I wouldn't recommend the +35 all around unless you plan to do a fender pull on the rear or use something to add a little more "fender" to the rear.

I do have the burnout rear fenders, but I just thought it would be a waste of money to add them if I was just going with 9.5 in the rear. The 10.5 offsets are not bery FD friendly at all.

Actually, the Burnout fenders may be able to sport the +35's. I believe they can handle more, but not the +25 of the 10.5's. Here's a shot of a car with the Burnout kit and running 9.5 +35 in the rear:

I think I like the idea of +42 better, this way I can rotate wheels.

Honestly, if you are interested in wide fenders, you should be looking at CCW or another custom wheel maker. Racing Hart and Work also make wheels with a huge variety of offsets and larger widths. No point in running wider rears without running 305s or 315s on some 11+" wheels....

Thanks for the advice guys, but I am not 100% sold on adding the wider fenders (in the rear). And I don't really like the Jline wheels.

I run 18x9.5 all around (Volk SE37A, powder coated black) with a 45mm offset. I could probably "afford" to bump the fronts out 5mm and the rears 10mm easily. That's with the stock fenders rolled.

The problem is he's not going with a custom wheel. So his offsets are limited, especially the wheel he is looking at.

What size tires are you running?

You can get them in a variety of finishes/colors. Which is the one of the major points of a custom wheel.

I don't know, best to email them if you have specific questions about their rims. If you are just looking for a street rim, IMO, I wouldn't be concerned with weight. Most places actually suggest not going with "super lightweight track rims" for the streets as they are not made to stand up to damaged public street conditions (even Grassroots and other magazines have said the same thing). Considering you live in an area which sees winters, I would imagine that your streets get torn up quite a bit.

If you are looking for a track rim, then I would suggest something other than Jline.
