Even with pulled fenders without running crazy camber a 18x10 +50 is about as aggressive as you can go in the front. You WILL need some wide body fenders for those wheels.

I'm in the same boat as drobs, new to the FD chassis; my goal is 18x9/10 with 275 or 285/35 rears is this possible without any serious fender pulling or rolling? i'm on jic coilovers
the wheels that i'd be looking at are offset +30 or +38

any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys

i rolled my fenders and ill be running 18x9.5 fronts and 18x10.5 rears , wheels i have are about +38 and +40 , my rears clear fine but my fronts will rub and thats will a stretched tire , so ill prob be running a 15-20mm spacer depending on clearance and how i will want it to look when its all said and done. ill prob have to raise the suspension as well since its already way to low

with the spacer it will cut my offset in half so hopefully things wont be rubbing in the fronts and ill have inner fenders at the end of the day

What is your use? Just street driving?

I ask because I have 18x10.5 +38 with 265/35-18 front and rear with the stock rear fenders and front fender lip rolled under.

But this requires added camber. I maxed the front at -2.4 deg and run -2 deg to help keep the outside shoulder wear down on auto crossing/cruising on street tires.

with the spacer it will cut my offset in half so hopefully things wont be rubbing in the fronts and ill have inner fenders at the end of the day

Where does the tire rub the inner fender? What height tire do you run?

My tire does rub the inner fender but only at the top of the tire when the suspension bottoms- spacers wouldn't help me, just running a shorter tire, raising the car or running stiffer shock/spring.

45 is the ideal offset for centering the tire between the suspension and the fender front and rear with coilovers.

You could fit 275 or 285 in the rear with a fender lip roll. You are getting close to the rear trailing arm, you may need an aftermarket arm depending on how much toe in you run.

But 275/35-18 or 285/35-18 is too tall for the FD.

You can make it work in the rear, but because of the added height over stock size it is more work than getting a 265/35-18, 285/30-18 or 295/30-18 to work. It ends up rubbing more on the inboard fender area of the unibody toward the front.

What are your goals with the taller tire? Trying to get a decent drag launch on 18s?

I disagree. I ran 18x10 +38 with 255/35's up front. This was with just a roll, and I was planning on spacing the wheels 5mm too.

my goal? trying to get the tires to hook on the ls1 FD
I'm currently looking at a set of equips 17x9 +45 and a 17x11 +45...
sounds like a tall order but could 275/40/17 fit in the rears?
im currently on fn01rc's 17x9 in the rear with a 275/40 and 245/45 in the front on a 17x8

I'm running factory spec alignment in the front with a 18x10+50 and 285/30 tire. Rolled(not pulled) fenders and my wheels are dead flush with the outside of the fender. Every car is different obviously. A 18x10.5 and a +12 offset is REALLY aggressive. That moves the outside edge out +44mm. Somehow I just don't see it on a stock fender. \

18x10+38 and 18x10.5+12 are 32mm different. That's 1.26" That's a massive difference.

Sure 275 will fit, I ran the 17x8.5 +30 255/40-17 fronts and 17x9.5 +40 275/40-17 rears from my FC on my stock FD with no issues. -1.5 deg front camber and -1 deg rear.

17x11 +45 will require coilovers and possibly an offset aftermarket trailing arm depending on how much toe in you run. 17x9 +45 in the front will fit no problems.

Don't go past -1.5 deg rear if you are trying to gain straight line traction as it starts to drop off fast past that.

I was thinking it might be something like V8 since you were wanting taller tires.

Truth is the taller sidewalls of the 17s you have will help you hook up better as the shorter and stiffer the sidewall the easier it is to shock the tire into wheelspin with torque.

Whether 17s or 18s instead of trying to squeeze a couple millimeters more width, I would go with an appropriate tire. Mikey Thompson ET Streets aren't too hairy in the corners.

If you are having a really hard time modulating the throttle you could cam it up to gain some top end and lose the fun but useless bottom end torque.

currently on jic coils
after using a wheel/tire calculator
i'd end up with more fender space, .5'' closer to the control arms, and fill out 4mm more of my wheel wells
doesnt seem like a far fetched idea for the rears, thanks for your input guys - hopefully i'll be posting pics up of the setup if i land the set

I would think about ditching the JICs as well.

I had both FLT-A2s and FLT-TARs on my TII. The old FLT-A2s had too much compression damping so they didn't let the weight transfer to the rear really limiting traction on acceleration. The FLT-TARs were much better, but still a softer dampened shock will really help traction.

The car would look better without the rear wiper..... and with wheels that actually fit.

Sorry, had to say it

Would not survive Deals Gap! Nothing worse than taking a great street/track car and making it a trailer queen.

lol more too low/ needing wheels that fit/ cant track your car now comments.

anyway, Drobs - I skipped through all that BS ppl posted cause was it was boring. so what size tires are you trying to go with, what do u want to do with the car, and how long/high do you want your FD to be? I'm guessing if u don't want to run a lot of camber, then u wont be very low.

Jaaf - What tire sizes/ wheel size(and offsets) are u running now, definitely is quite aggressive. a bit too much poke for me, but still cool.

alright, 40 series tires are going to be quite tall. if u want to run 18x10.5 all round without much work.. 18x10.5 +22 , 245/35 front, 255/35 rear will do the trick. u can move up to 265/35 if u want but ull probably need to do a bit more pulling. if ur not going low.. then move up in sizes.

this is 245/35 F 18x10.5 +22, 255/35 18x10.5 +22
