Pics of the new wheels on my FD

So they're here...took a little over 10 weeks wait for them to make the wheels for me. Original delivery time was supposed to be 4 weeks but they had some issues. The wheels fit really well. There's no way you can tuck any more tire than this with the stock trailing arms. The rear sidewalls touch the stock arms when the car is in the air but once you lower it you get minimal clearance. Details:

ZE Forged (Boze) Hi Octanes
http://www.zeforged.com/index_flash.htm
Front:
245/35/18 BFG G-Force KDW
18x9 +43mm
Rear:
285/30/18 BFG G-Force KDW
18x10 +55mm

Yes +55mm 18x10's barely fit contrary to what most people have said on the board. I think it was more of the unknown factor so people just went safe and passed on that they don't fit. I decided to take a chance. I wanted the wheels inboard as far as possible. Wheels that are even with the top of the fender look worse than they should because of the way the body curves inward as it goes down towards the bottom of the car.

Price was $2100 shipped. Not bad for a completely custom wheel.

Bear with me...the car's dirty and the rims are still all smudged up from all the man-handling yesterday.

Better pictures will come later when its clean and in a more photogenic location.

Can I ask why you went with a +43 offset for the fronts? Since they're custom, I would have gone +50 and ran 255/35s with plenty of clearance.

Looks nice though.

A couple reasons.

+50mm would have sunk the front into the fender well too far compared to the rears (IMO).

The slightly wider front track (compared to +50's) assists turn in which is already a problem with that much tire in the back.

255/35's are a larger tire (diameter) than the 285/30's in the back. Why would I want larger tires in the front of the car? The 245/35's are just a hair smaller than the 285/30's.

Thanks for the compliment though.

I disagree since, theoretically, your 245 only sits 2mm further outboard than a +50 offset 255 tire.

Problems with turn in? On an FD? What are your alignment settings?

A typical 255/35 is 0.2" larger in diameter. I'm not sure why think that would be a problem, Mazda did it from 97-98 or so (235/45 front, 255/40 rear).

I'm not trying to bust your *****, I think the wheels look nice, were well priced for custom wheels, and you obviously made conscious and knowledgable decisions with regards to size and offsets. I'm just debating some of the finer points, that's all.

Let me say it again...I don't want a 255.

See the pic in my sig? Those are 295/30/18's on +35 10.5's. The car liked to go straight. With the new setup plow is all but gone. Real world application hard at work...

Again...I'm not sure why you think its a good idea. Why would I want to have a larger tire on the front than the back? It makes no sense to me. A 245/35 slightly stretched over a 9 is going to give me more sidewall rigidity and plenty of width for a car this light in a street application.

Thanks again. I'm not trying to be combative either but I'm getting the impression you're trying to pass off your opinion on the optimal setup as fact. Seems to happen alot on this board...especially in the FD community.

wow you got a 10.5" +35 rim with a 295 tire onto the rear of a fd? you wouldn't happen to have any side shots of this would you? i'd love to see how the rim lip lines up with the fender.

Yeah...+35 on a 10.5 was a little extreme. As you can see they stuck out some. Absolutely mean looking but kinda cartoonish at the same time. Hence the upgrade.

I'm going to sell that wheel and tire combo for pretty cheap here soon.

Yeah...they aren't lightweights. This isn't my "max effort" fast car...I bought the FD more for looks with a side of mid-high 12's.

You should of gone with a 12 width for the rear :P

Anything over 10.5 won't fit without fender surgery and/or trailing arm "relocation". 12 won't even come close to fitting with stock fenders.

hey, i hope you see this. i'm about to put 10.5's on my fc. i came across a deal on a wide rear kit from bmagic and some 10.5's that i liked. so now they are almost ready to go on. just have to find some tires that i can afford.

my ? is. how badly did your car like to plow? was it serious? mine is an fc so i imagine that any handling probs would be amplified compared to the fd. i really want these wheels, but i love the way the car drives and don't want to f- that up.
if your answer is bad news, do you think 9's would have the same affect?

It was pretty bad. You could feel it resisting whenever you turned and that's all but gone now. That being said I never pushed it hard enough where it didn't make a turn because it plowed thru it. I'm no autocrosser.

Part of whats going to play into it is your front track width Vs. your rear track width so your setup may behave differently with different offsets.
