here's a close look at the upper mount setup on the Trak Pro.

note the generous rubber spacer and also that the spring contacts a washer so the pigtail (which is actually flat) doesn't degrade the rubber as it does on the stock FD.

i note that not only does the spring have an insulator, the shock does too.

BTW, since i have the Stage 3 and Comp coil overs i am swapping the Stage 3 12/10s onto the Comps which are 15/12.

i should actually be out and about w them within a week.

So Howard,

You're putting the 12/10kg springs onto the comp dampers?

I quickly skimmed over this whole thread and I couldn't find if it was mentioned but are the comp dampers different from the stage 1, 2 and 3's? More adjustments? Independent bump and rebound?

comps are single tube. stages 1-3 are twin tube.

BOTH have their advantages and disadvantages.

we will wring them out comparatively after my 4 turbo dyno tests.

Cool. I'm interested in your findings. However, I always lean towards the twin tube dampers. It's not really a race car. ...yet

talked w Cam who had just returned from running a Time Attack event at Sebring. even though it was broiling hot he won his class and will be receiving a four figure contingency check from Mazda.

fastest lap
lap record

running the TrakPro Comps and a fairly worn set of tires.

as to you not receiviing a response, he said that Pettit gets over 1000 emails per week and sometimes their filter will divert some into the junk file. if your email is not diverted you will get an auto response.

he suggests you call as often it is worth having a discussion so you get the right setup. since you are in Greece perhaps it does need to get done via email. one of the things he mentioned was if you have the letters R or X in the subject it goes to junk...

they have all Trak Pros in stock.

i installed mine yesterday so am getting closer.

Thanks Howard,
i will get in contact again.
my concerns are:
in what degree it is rebuildable from an average mechanick or by me.should i ship the coilover to pettit for rebuild?
what spare parts will i need? ruber mounts or what?
are the spring universal size? can i change the springs with another brand or only from pettit?

i hear many advises about valving. can i swith to softer or harder springs with the same valving? is there a limit i can do that?if i byuy the pro comp witch is very hard , can i swith later to 8/6 for example?is the 8/6 too soft for a single tube?

Howard since you are testing those i think you are the most apropriate guy to answer those concerns.
thanks for your time.

"in what degree it is rebuildable from an average mechanick or by me.should i ship the coilover to pettit for rebuild?"

rebuildable only thru Pettit

"what spare parts will i need? ruber mounts or what?"

no additional parts needed to install

"are the spring universal size? can i change the springs with another brand or only from pettit?"

unfortunately not universal due to the need to have a large diameter at the body to spread the load. the good news is Pettit will be stocking a wide range of rates.

"i hear many advises about valving. can i swith to softer or harder springs with the same valving? is there a limit i can do that?if i byuy the pro comp witch is very hard , can i swith later to 8/6 for example?is the 8/6 too soft for a single tube?"

alot of coil over valving talk is BS. most coil overs i have dynoed have a linear spread of valving which can easliy accomodate anything from 15 to 6 KG. i will qualify this by mentioning i have not dynoed the TrakPros and no longer have my shock dyno. i may throw a set of 8/6s on the comps and see how things are. i expect they will work well.

I'd be curious to know what the "24 clicks" adjusts. Is it rebound only? Compression and rebound together? It's too bad you don't have your dyno anymore Howard, it would be nice to see how these are done.

These appear very nice. Now wondering if I made a mistake on my ~$2k Zeal Xs?

I wouldn't fret it. You will always be able to sell the Zeal's if you wanted to, seems to always be a market for them.

Also, keep in my these guys are track junkies lol...if you are amateur like me, I doubt you would notice the difference...or would you Howard?

I find that most of the time, I can't take full advantage of mods due to my inexperience and lack of seat time on the track. Hoping to remedy that someday.

You're probably right. Id like to start getting into tracking more seriously, but as for now Im still a beginner. Heck my Zeals are still pretty much brand new, I bought them a few years ago but my car hasnt been on the road since. Haha Ive never even driven on them yet.

ZEAL shocks and suspension components has been used everywhere from Super GT (GT500 and GT300 class) all the way to WRC, Formula Nippon and pretty much every form of motorsports in Japan. We are doing some testing with ZEAL components in ALMS now as well.

This wasn't the Redline Time Attack this past weekend @ Sebring was it?

edit: Just looked, it was. Didn't know they were campaigning a car! Cool What are the specs of the car Cam is running? He ran in the super mod class!

Unless the event was PAX'd, Cam was the fastest in his respective class (Super Modified RWD)

The FTD of the day was in Modified AWD - 2.16.xx vs his 2.24.xx

http://redlinetimeattack.com/ul/imag...010Results.pdf

Which is why I asked what mods are on the FD. Perhaps he entered in the wrong class..

here's the process of winning... if you have read my suspension thread you know you are blind without a pyrometer. Cam's crew is reading the all important outside front tire (LF) and based on the reading they added additional camber. and posted fast time in class.

here's a pic of the car ontrack

and the car wingless cooling it's heels

and ontrack. running Trak Pro Comps w a fairly worn (out) set of Michelin Porsche Cup shoes.

PSCs really fall off near the end of their life. I bet if Cam was running fresh tires, he coulda knocked a few seconds off his time!

Thanks for the pics Howard!
