Matt Gold is saying the same thing we all are but for some reason wants the last word and wants to take some silly potshots based on ASSUMPTIONS of how people work.

thats all.

I'm saying these issues are no big deal.

From the vibe I get from others (you included) is that these issues ARE big deals.

No potshots intended.

I'm not sure what you mean as you just did a paragraph soap box rant on the cosmetics of the mount on the coilover not being orange???...nobody said that was an issue.

But if you are talking about the brakeline bracket and the fact that fracturing a surface intended to hold your car when you corner.....they are big deals. i have researched them and that is what i have shared on this forum. it's a preference, we already had this conversation, it already went stalemate. the posts that come afterwards are questions about how to put the setup together the way they want to based on what already has been said. but please, lets keep beating the dead horse.

Lets not keep beating the dead horse, in the pass week I've been on Road Atlanta and Mosport lapping after getting corner balanced & a alignment. Compared to my stock set-up it's night & day, it still need some tweaking but generally the set-up feels good and a hell of a less twitchy in the rear end and so far have not lost the rear end once. Some time this month I'll get a full day at the track and hopefully get it feeling just right. For the money you can't go wrong IMHO and still have not heard from Cam about the modified clevis just his original response.

There are plenty of good options for $2500.00 for shock/spring and coilover options that actually DO fit the car without any modification that is not a re-badged shock.

The cosmetics on the coilovers is the ONLY issue. Has anyone 'fractured' anything? What I see is surface contact:

Nothing is being compromised, nothing is being 'fractured'. I see some powder coating rubbing off.

The brake line mounts are NOT a big deal either, they are a non-issue. Worst case, there's a $5 fix out there so you can sleep at night. For all I know, the brake line brackets are there to speed up assembly on the production line.

Bottom line people using these on the track (see above, and Pettit, and me, and, and...) aren't having any horror stories of fractured coilovers or brake line failures even when pushing their cars to the limit.

I just worry too much of this is fear mongering and too little is cause for concern.

My Stage II Coilovers were $1450, minus a $200 'Racers Discount' ($1250 OTD) when I bought them. They are currently $1499 on their site.

...and truth is, most coilovers (APEXi, Stance, KSport, etc) are re-badged as well. These companies don't tool up to produce coilovers in house either.

I was under no illusion Pettit was gas charging shocks or casting pistons in the back room.

+1, This nicely sums things up.

Now this thread is officially getting funny... This is hardly just a cosmetic issue . Just give it up man. These coil overs have issues that others do not. It's that simple. Its fine that your happy with them, but stop trying to trivialize peoples legitimate concerns with them. I know I wouldn't spend my money on these...

To each his own! Matt is actually making a good point about the level of damage the nub really doesn't cause when it contacts the lower section. That aluminum is very soft and may as well just be just like a scratch. If you don't want the contact, grind off the nub. No big deal! Moding other parts is something WE all do with this car when installing after market parts. I bet you had several mods to do when you installed your GT35 kit didn't you?

Making modifications to an aftermarket part to make it fit is acceptable if it is a unique part or one off design and you feel like you must have it but if the part you are buying has alternatives for similar prices then who'd pick the one with poor fitment and other quality/quality control issues. Would we have the same issues if we bought tein flex for example? No.

Some people talking like we are back in 1993 and these are the first coilovers released for the RX7.

Btw I still have not received a reply from Cam to my email, it's been like 3-4 weeks.

Are you serious? Are you comparing single turbo conversion to changing shocks/coilovers?

Sums up something that is completely different then what I'm talking about... I'm talking about $1200 coilovers.

For $2500 I'll get some used Motons and still have to fab up brake line mounts and locations for the reservoirs.

How it is anything other then a cosmetic issue?

Grind the nub = Cosmetic
Live with the contact = Cosmetic

What part of the suspension are you modifying in any sort of functional manner that isn't cosmetic?

???

All that said, I still think (agree) this *shouldn't* be this way... and at the VERY least, Cam should have made this clear up front... but it sounds like fixes are in the works.

So the question is - if the lower fork is redesigned and the brake line mounts are included - are these no longer terrible coilovers? Or will there still be things people can find to rant about?

-Matt

I was actually taking what you had to say with some interest until you posted this. It's obvious now based on this post and a few others in this thread you have an axe to grind with Cam. Not sure why but to each his own.

The post on here slamming Cam for importing a product and then marking it up is laughable. If you get your undies in a bunch about business practices like that you better be prepared for a permanent wedgie. That practice is the way goods are brought to market all over the world.

The Trak Pro's are a very good setup for the money. Emphasis on for the money. I applaud Cam for finding a cost effective solution for a car that hasn't been imported for over 15 years. Be glad someone out there still supports our favorite car.

IMO nobody is slamming Cam. He has already emailed a Reckless and told him he would send him the new clevis. The manufacturer is already changing the style of the clevis to keep it from making contact with the arm. So it has already been developed further and in the process of being fixed.

I agree its no big deal to take the clevis and shave it down, but since Cam is being nice and offering them up to people who have the defective ones thats a bonus.

I don't see the posts about the brakeline bracket as a slam, people...who want them...are posting solutions. Just as I have seen on the Evo and S2000 boards, but without the negativity. People want to buy these parts and its cool to see what people have done to put them on their streetable rides.

I just placed a order for the Stage 3s 12K10K yesterday. I will be giving a thorough review on the performance, fit and quality of these coilovers.... this will be in comparison to my Koni-tein setup I have now which i will be selling.

No I'm comparing the mods differences between the two. Mods are mods regardless of application and are to be expected when installing aftermarket parts. Example: It's funny how some will install a front mount and hack up the front rebar to make the front IC fit yet no one is complaining about having to do that or saying how many issues the turbo kit had during installation. Now I'm not saying he installed a front mount but you get my point. The comparison was to make the point that his Single conversion took way more time and potentially more Mods to his vehicle to complete when compared to what needs to be done to make these coil overs work properly. Yet Moehler is trying to make it seem like these coils have serious issues (which they don't). If you don't understand the mod comparison then I'm sorry!

I'll say it again, the only problem with these coilovers is the fact that Cam didn't make aware to his clientele of these minor issues before hand. I can guarantee you that if an installation NOTICE had been placed with the coilovers, half this thread wouldn't be here because the owners would have full disclosure on the installation process and no one would be complaining.

on a side note - has anyone received the free modified rear clevis' from pettit yet? I've sent a few emails over the last few weeks with no response asking for a set to be sent to me.

if so do we know how much was machined off the face of the clevis?....if pettit dont bother responding to me I might get them machined at my end.

Installed my Stage II's today, Went pretty smooth. I ground down the nub, took me all of 2 miniutes. And after pulling my Tien's off, I noticed that they have very little marks on the bottom as well. Pertty sure they rubbed in the same spot.

Here are some pics.

Would you please post pictures of the run on the Teins? Thanks in advance!

Yeah...I just noticed... Racing Gear coilovers from Japan (grabbed from 'Rare Parts Defined' thread) don't have brake line mounts either:

https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...8&postcount=15

Those must be some baaaad coilovers.

Even Ohlins doesn't have bake line mounts, they're using the same hose clamps.

Tein is also a Taiwanese shock though. Regardless of the made in Japan sticker, they are made in Taiwan. Maybe they just do the final assembly in Japan.

I was about to order a set but this thread doesn't make me feel comfortable with this seller, so I won't.It doesn't seem to have been through a lot of R&D, so will go with Cusco instead.
