We are talking about Pettit misrepresented coilover, If it was a Apexi coilover discussion, i wold have been doing better things with my time.

They are the same coilovers, take it how you want... If it makes you guys feel good inside that Cam stands behind them, with an 60% to 100% mark up.. Fine with me.

I took flight figure instead of sea freight cause Cam's coilovers are here now, no waiting. Just like ebay, buy it now option is always more expensive then placing an offer or waiting for bidding to end. I'm sure if I've waited few more months I could get even better prices on some other coilovers and so on and so on....
Thanks for sharing information anyway. No one will mind paying less for same products.

i have in my possession a set of Stage 3 and Comps.
they are different and the difference supports the Pettit claim that the Comps are single tube and the Stages are double tube. the Comps have a valve at the bottom which is a necessary single tube element. the Stages do not.
the two are not the same shock.
beyond that i have no knowledge as to where Pettit sources the setup. i appreciate the fact that Pettit listened re the upper mount which should not be solid. i also appreciate the fact that it WORKS in taking out all the NVH.
as to what they cost V resale... i will leave that to others but do make sure before closing the book here that we are talking about the exact same item.

Do the taiwanese coilovers you mention come with rubber mount bushings to avoid pillowball noises?

There is nothing wrong with the coilovers, good quality, But misrepresented/ misinformed by Pettit.

They have no further information on their site about the N1 coilovers for the FD3S. I'm going to try emailing them because there is also an email link, and I'll try calling tomorrow.
But if it's the same product and they provide decent service I'd be willing to work with them. Of course I would need to know how I can get them adjusted and rebuilt. Custom valving and spring rates would be mandatory.

I'm all about supporting American products and businesses and not buying Chinese knock-off stuff from Ebay. But in this case it looks like this is a Iasati original product and they have done their own R&D. But we still have yet to prove whether or not these are even the same product. So I await a response to my email from Iasati...

Whether these are the same Coilovers has yet to be proven. The poster who brought up this entire issue appears not to have much experience in manufacturing/purchasing/marketing/R&D/etc of a product.
Most retailers have a keystone for their product even if they are just selling it...which is generally double the price they paid + a few points. So even according to your math, Cam (surprisingly) isn't even key stoning the product unless he is paying about $400 per set.
You also aren't taking into account R&D and like it or not, Pettit IS a brand name in our industry. Brand name = $. Do you really think whatever brand name jeans you over paid for REALLY cost more to make than a pair of Levi's? You are paying for a brand name.
Have you been to China or Taiwan and dealt with their factories? Luxury brand shirts that you've probably never heard of you can get for $5 there...direct from the factory down the road at Guangzhou.
I've seen some things I disagree with out of Pettit but they tend to have quality products for our specific cars with years of experience to back the products up.
I'm undecided whether you were genuinely trying to be helpful or if you have a hidden agenda. Regardless, you have a VERY simplified view of the entire manufacturing/retail process...in particular regarding Asia.

Yes rubber top mount, they are the same in every way you look at them.
There is nothing wrong with the coilovers, good quality, But misrepresented/ misinformed by Pettit.

Well I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Pettit coilovers because for $2,000 it's not a bad deal considering that it is a mono tube design, custom springs, aluminum body. Its a very good setup. For any other car you would be paying the same. So he isn't asking an insane amount of money. It's just that it's an insanely good deal to get these for $680. I mean you can't even buy a decent cup kit for that.

Also they mentioned the top bushing is rubber. So according to Iasati their product is identical to Pettit racing's product. So I would say this is "myth confirmed" without actually holding the two in my hand and comparing.
They gave me a very nice PDF catalog which has much more detailed information and pictures on the products if anyone is interested. I can't post it here because it's 5 MB but I could email it to you no problem. Just PM me your email address.

Well, with these retail prices for individuals (not dealers), the mark-up doesn't actually look that bad for a U.S. dealer. I'm not in the market, but if I were I'd rather deal with Pettit than overseas.
I've heard many times though that Chinese/Tiawanese companies will do this though—develop a product to your spec, and then sell it out from under you for less. Not sure what the development cycle was, or what if any input Pettit had, but if I were Cam I'd be a little pissed at my supplier.

I also just found out that they do not do custom valving and gas pressure for the coilovers as of now, but they will in April.
I'm not sure how bad that is though considering there is only one monotube design and it of course has different valves from the others being that it is a completely different design. And Howard was already saying that this is kind of a myth and that most shocks can withstand a wide variety of spring rates given the adjustments you can make. But I don't really know. It's kind of confusing.

i know this from having owned a shock dyno and digital spring rater for a number of years...
so it appears that the spring rates have been initially set by the MFR. probably by someone in marketing who thinks bigger numbers are better.
i will be running no more than 10/8 on either the Comps or Stage 3s when the snow melts in Wisconsin. my guess is i will prefer the Stage 3 as it is a double tube which has better digressive valving than a single piston.
